Goldschmidt hit his 11th home run as part of a 3-for-4 game with two runs scored and two RBI in Tuesday's win over Tampa Bay.

Goldschmidt managed his first multi-hit game since May 31 and raised his average from .262 to .272 in the process. While Goldschmidt has been excellent this year, with a .429 OBP and .490 SLG, the .300 batting average he has produced in each of the past two years has yet to show up. Part of that is a lack of lineup protection -- Goldschmidt has walked 55 times in 59 games and isn't getting much to hit. Still, it will only take a few more games like Tuesday's for Goldschmidt to get his average back to where we're used to, and if anybody's capable of rattling a few such games off in a hurry, it's Goldschmidt.

Goldschmidt went 3-for-4 in Tuesday's loss to the Astros and now has hits in six straight games.

EDGE Analysis

Over the six-game stretch, Goldschmidt is 10-for-20, and he's bumped his season batting average from .240 to .269 in the process. Given Goldy's track record, it was only a matter of time before his bat heated up. He should be one of fantasy's top contributors the rest of the way.

Goldschmidt's average remains a paltry (for his standards) .257, but he remains a major threat at the plate due to his power and his ability to get on base at a high clip. The first baseman has hit safely in eight of the past nine games for a .400 average over that span, so he's beginning to show the form he's evidenced over the past three seasons.

Although his average is up a tick from April, Goldschmidt's slugging percentage is more than 100 points lower than it was a month ago. Part of the issue is that opposing pitchers are pitching around him more than ever, as is evident by his career-high walk rate of 20.9 percent. The good news is that history would indicate that his power numbers are on their way as the season pushes into summer.

The slugger had a chance to do more damage but didn't get it done. In the three-game series with Pittsburgh, Goldschmidt left a total of 10 runners on base. It's a good sign that runners are getting on in front of him, and if Goldschmidt begins to heat up at the plate, the RBI total could rise quickly.

Goldschmidt drove in both of his runs after the Diamondbacks had a comfortable lead in a game they'd win. He's now driven in a run in six of his last seven contests to give him 26 on the season.

Goldy is probably sad to be leaving Coors Field, as he went 5-for-12 with a home run and three doubles the last three days. He raised his batting average 20 points in the process, and it looks like the slugger is breaking out of his early season slump. He is set to face Johnny Cueto and the Giants on Thursday back home.

Goldy is hitting just .194 this month, but he has seven total bases in his first two games of 2016 at Coors Field, and will hope this can be a sign of better things to come. Goldschmidt (a career .297 hitter) is hitting just .232 so far this season, and Hale said he thinks the slugger's selectivity is contributing. "I think he just has to be a little more aggressive in the zone," Hale said. "It seems like every time you look up, he's hitting with two strikes." In fact, Goldschmidt has reached two strikes in 60 percent of his plate appearances this year, up from his career rate of 53 percent. He does have a league-high 28 walks so far and a strong .421 on-base percentage, however.
