Leake (9-10) allowed four runs (three earned) on six hits and a walk with four strikeouts over six innings in a loss Monday to the Cubs.
EDGE Analysis
Leake was undone by a pair of home runs, a two-run shot from Dexter Fowler and a solo blast by Ben Zobrist. Leake has now allowed 20 home runs or more for each of the past six seasons, and that's why he has managed an ERA under 3.50 just once. His 2016 ERA sits at 4.60, the worst of his career.

Leake (illness) made his return from the DL Wednesday, pitching 4.1 innings in a no-decision versus the Pirates. He allowed three runs on nine hits and one walk while striking out three.
EDGE Analysis
Back on the mound for the first time since Aug. 21, Leake allowed two runs in a 23-pitch first inning that he was unable to rebound from. As he normally does, Leake threw strikes and limited the free passes to just one. However, getting too much of the plate has often hurt him, and that seemed to be the case again Wednesday as the Pirates racked up nine hits, the most Leake's allowed since July 23. He'll make his next start Tuesday versus the Cubs.

Leake (illness) is set to start Wednesday's game against the Pirates.
EDGE Analysis
He had been on the DL with an illness, but is in the lineup Wednesday, so he appears to be feeling well enough to slot back into the rotation. Leake is second among qualified starters with a career-best 3.7 percent walk rate, but perhaps he's throwing a few too many strikes, as opposing hitters are hitting .276 against him and he sports a 4.56 ERA -- his worst such mark since 2012. Given the $80 million contract he inked with St. Louis this offseason, his status in the rotation should be safe down the stretch, even though Alex Reyes appears to be an obvious upgrade waiting in the bullpen.

Leake (illness) is ready to rejoin the Cardinals' rotation, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
EDGE Analysis
Leake is eligible to be activated from the disabled list, and he could return to action as soon as Wednesday. However, the Cardinals are currently listing Alex Reyes as their starter for that day, so it remains to be seen what the date of his next outing will be.

Leake (illness) is expected to join the team this weekend, Jim Hayes of Fox Sports Midwest reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Cardinals plan for Leake to pitch a bullpen session Sunday, contingent upon him rejoining the team. Diaz's most recent outing on Aug. 21 was solid, as he pitched seven shutout innings and struck out eight batters. However, his ERA and WHIP are at high marks of 4.56 and 1.27, respectively.

The Cardinals placed Leake on the 15-day disabled list Monday due to his case of the shingles.
EDGE Analysis
Leake was scratched from his scheduled start Saturday, and with him now landing on the disabled list, his ailment will cost him further action. He will be eligible to be activated Sept. 6 however, so he could return after missing just one more trip through the rotation.

Leake will not start Saturday's game against the A's due to a case of the shingles, MLB.com's Jenifer Langosch reports.
EDGE Analysis
Leake will be replaced in the rotation by Alex Reyes. It remains to be seen if he will miss any further action beyond Saturday's start.

Leake (9-9) held the Phillies scoreless for seven innings in Sunday's 9-0 win, allowing seven hits and a walk while striking out eight.
EDGE Analysis
He even chipped in a two-run single, giving himself all the run support he would need on the day. Leake has been feast or famine lately, posting five quality starts in nine July and August outings with a 2.25 ERA and 33:6 K:BB in 32 innings but a 9.82 ERA and 12:1 K:BB in 22 innings over the other four disasters. He'll next take the mound at home Saturday against the A's.

Leake allowed three runs, struck out four and walked just one across six innings Sunday versus the Cubs. He did not factor into the decision.
EDGE Analysis
Leake settled down after allowing a pair of runs in the first inning, retiring 16 batters in a row at one point, although he allowed another run in the sixth inning before departing. He has now delivered a pair of quality starts after a disastrous run from late July to early August, though his ERA still sits at an inflated 4.78 for the season. Leake will have the opportunity to continue his positive momentum Sunday in Philadelphia.

Leake allowed three runs on six hits and four walks over six innings in a no-decision Tuesday against the Reds.
EDGE Analysis
Leake rebounded from allowing at least six runs in each of his three previous starts. Still, his control was shaky Tuesday, as he managed just 51 strikes in 94 pitches and just 11 first-pitch strikes to 24 batters. His four walks marked a season high, but perhaps he was trying to be a little more careful after allowing 27 hits (including three home runs) over 16 innings in his previous three starts. Unfortunately, neither approach seems particularly likely to bear fruit for fantasy owners.
