Yahoo's Jeff Passan reports that Padres owner Jeff Moorad said to Mike Adams last week, "you're not going anywhere." Passan said the asking price for Adams is higher than that of Heath Bell's. SI.com's Jon Heyman previously reported that the Padres were seeking a "top prospect" for Adams, and it sounds like no one was willing to go that far for him. He'll take over the closing duties for Bell if/when the latter is traded.

Padres reliever Mike Adams has applied for a passport in case he's traded to an American League team and has to travel to Toronto. The 32-year-old right-hander may be the most desirable non-closer reliever being shopped prior to the July 31 trade deadline. He would take over as closer in San Diego if he stayed and Heath Bell were shipped out of town. SI.com's Jon Heyman reported that the Padres are seeking a "top prospect" for Adams. Adams is making only $2.35 million in 2011 and is under Padres control through 2012. He's posted a 1.70 ERA, .177 opponents' batting average, and 234 strikeouts in 212 career innings for the Padres.

SI.com's Jon Heyman reports that the Padres are seeking a "top prospect" for reliever Mike Adams. In other words, he probably won't be moved this summer. Adams is making only $2.35 million here in 2011 and is under Padres control through 2012. On top of that, the 32-year-old has registered a fantastic 1.32 ERA and 0.71 WHIP through 41 innings. Heath Bell is far likelier to be traded.

Mike Adams relinquished a 5-3 lead in the eighth frame on Wednesday, yielding one earned run on two hits in 2/3 of an inning. The second run was charged to started Dustin Moseley. Adams surrendered a single and game-tying two-RBI double before inducing a couple of ground outs to avoid further damage. The outing was a rare blemish on Adams' otherwise exceptional season, in which he still commands a 1.35 ERA and 0.70 WHIP. He has not been charged with more than one earned run in his last 91 appearances, dating back to May 18, 2010.
