Mike Adams failed to convert his second save on Thursday, serving up a two-run, walkoff homer to the Angels' Mark Trumbo. Since losing his first game as a Ranger on August 2, Adams had tossed 7 1/3 consecutive scoreless innings heading into Thursday's contest. However, he's pitched only two hitless innings during his nine appearances for Texas, as opponents are batting 10-for-35 (.286) against him, versus a .197 career mark.

Mike Adams earned his first save of the season in Sunday's 5-3 defeat of the Indians. Adams struck out one and retired all three batters he faced in the perfect frame. Neftali Feliz remains the Rangers' primary ninth-inning option, but Adams could vulture a few more save opportunities down the stretch.

Rangers manager Ron Washington said Mike Adams would close Sunday night if an opportunity presented itself with Neftali Feliz unavailable. Feliz has pitched the last three days and will get the night off. Koji Uehara, also in contention for saves if Feliz needs a night off, has pitched three of the last four days. If you're in a daily league and still have the leeway to make roster changes, consider getting Adams into your lineup this evening.

Mike Adams' first outing for the Rangers did not go as planned, serving up a go-ahead homer to the Tigers' Brennan Boesch in the bottom of the eighth inning to earn the loss. Welcome to the American League, Mr. Adams. The 32-year-old right-hander has been his normal brilliant self this season, but expect a small adjustment period as he acclimates to AL hitters, many of whom he has never pitched to.

Rangers general manager Jon Daniels refused to speculate on whether Mike Adams can pitch the ninth in the future. While Daniels said that Adams is "capable" of closing ballgames, manager Ron Washington said that Adams and Koji Uehara would pitch the eight, with one "occasionally" pitching the seventh. Neither pitcher is currently a threat to Neftali Feliz's closer job, but a few more meltdowns could create a controversy.

Rangers acquired RHP Mike Adams from the Padres for LHP Robbie Erlin and RHP Joe Wieland. Jon Daniels paid a hefty price, but the back end of the Rangers' bullpen is vastly improved. Adams is quietly one of the most dominant relievers in baseball, posting a ridiculous 1.66 ERA and 241/59 K/BB ratio over 217 innings dating back to the 2008 season. His success isn't just a product of PETCO, either. While Heath Bell would have been a rental, Adams remains under team control through 2012.

According to MLB.com's T.R. Sullivan, the Rangers have acquired Mike Adams, not Heath Bell, from the Padres. Ken Rosenthal's initial report was apparently incorrect. Adams, 33, is actually a more dominant reliever than Bell and is under contract through the end of the 2012 season. He's posted a sparkling 1.13 ERA through 48 innings this season and will fit nicely into a setup role with the Rangers. Pitching prosepcts Robbie Erlin and Joe Wieland are headed San Diego's way.

Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com reports that the Phillies remain active in talks for the Padres' available relievers. The Phillies have been connected to Heath Bell and Mike Adams for quite a while now, but Morosi hears that they prefer Adams because they could control him through 2012. Bell would merely be a rental for a contender.

ESPN's Buster Olney reports that there is "a big gap" between what what the Padres are asking for and what the Yankees are willing to part with in exchange for Mike Adams. We've been hearing for a while now that Adams being traded is less and less likely. Olney's colleague, Jerry Crasnick, reported Friday that the Padres were focused on moving Heath Bell, Chad Qualls, Aaron Harang and Ryan Ludwick, but not Adams. The setup man is under team control for one more year, but it's doubtful his value will ever be any higher.

Mike Adams shot down a report by Yahoo! Sports which claimed that Padres owner Jeff Moorad told him he wouldn't be traded. We can't see why he wouldn't be on the market. Adams, 32, has a ridiclous 1.69 ERA over four seasons with the Padres and remains under team control through 2012. He could easily net a premium prospect from a contender.
