Padres reliever Mike Adams has applied for a passport in case he's traded to an American League team and has to travel to Toronto.
The 32-year-old right-hander may be the most desirable non-closer reliever being shopped prior to the July 31 trade deadline. He would take over as closer in San Diego if he stayed and Heath Bell were shipped out of town. SI.com's Jon Heyman reported that the Padres are seeking a "top prospect" for Adams. Adams is making only $2.35 million in 2011 and is under Padres control through 2012. He's posted a 1.70 ERA, .177 opponents' batting average, and 234 strikeouts in 212 career innings for the Padres.
