Wieters (elbow) caught six innings in Saturday's minor league game, the Baltimore Sun's Eduardo A. Encina reports.
This was twice as many innings as Wieters caught in the intrasquad game 12 days earlier. He is slated to do the same in Sunday's game, and appears to be on track to start behind the dish on Opening Day.

Wieters (elbow) is slated to catch 5-to-7 innings Saturday and again on Sunday, MASN's Roch Kubatko reports.
This will mark his first action behind the plate this spring, as he has been serving as the team's DH so far. Unfortunately he has started off in an 0-for-17 slump in Grapefruit League play, and apparently still has a bit of rust to knock off at the plate. Thankfully, this is what spring games are for, and as continues to progress with his catching we should start to get a better idea as to whether he will be ready to catch on Opening Day.

Wieters (elbow) is 0-for-17 this spring through Tuesday's game while hitting as the designated hitter.
It is believed Wieters is still several days from catching, but he has participated as the designated hitter and he is still looking for his first Grapefruit League hit this spring. There is not great cause for concern with spring training slumps, but Wieters draws a red flag here since he is working his way back from Tommy John surgery. He remains questionable for the start of the season.

Wieters made his spring debut and went 0-for-3 as the designated hitter in Wednesday's loss to the Tigers.
Wieters threw before the game, but he will not appear as the catcher for another couple of weeks. The throwing program seems to be going well, manager Buck Showalter told MASN Sports.

Wieters (elbow) will be behind the plate for Sunday's intrasquad game, Baltimore Sun reports.
Wieters won't catch in actual spring games until he's cleared to throw at 100 percent around the middle of March, but he will catch in simulated scenarios for the time being. He will begin the process of building his innings behind the plate Sunday, catching two innings, with the hope of being able to catch five-to-seven frames right away once cleared for Grapefruit League action.

Wieters (elbow) caught bullpen sessions and hit from both sides of the plate Friday, MASN Sports reports.Wieters is focused on his receiving at the plate and he probably did not even throw the ball back to the pitcher. He will be broken in slowly, and while it is good Wieters is back behind the plate, it will be several weeks before he truly plays defense at the position.

Wieters (elbow) will be the team's DH to start spring training, MLB Network Radio reports.Wieters appears to be making good progress as he returns from Tommy John surgery last June, but his return behind the plate may be a bit delayed. Manager Buck Showalter indicated that Wieters would remain the DH for at least the first two weeks of spring training, so while he's on track to return by Opening Day, it could be in a limited capacity initially.

Wieters (elbow) stretched out his throwing program to 150 feet earlier this week, MASN Sports reports.
Wieters appears to be on schedule in his bid to return by Opening Day. While he has had no setbacks in his rehabilitation, Wieters did suggest that he may not be able to catch games initially in spring training. It is reasonable to think Wieters could get himself into Opening Day form in less than a month, so it could be early-to-mid-March before we find out if Wieters is actually behind schedule by not getting game action in spring training.

Wieters agreed to a one-year, $8.3 million contract with the Orioles on Friday, avoiding arbitration, Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com reports.
Because Wieters was limited to just 26 games last season due to an elbow injury that ultimately required Tommy John surgery, he will receive a relatively modest bump in salary (from $7.7 million) in his third year of arbitration. The 28-year-old just threw from 120 feet Monday for the first time since his procedure.

Wieters (elbow) will throw from 120 feet Monday for the first time since undergoing Tommy John surgery last June, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.
It's not clear how much longer Wieters will need to recover from his elbow injury, but he is set to take an important step in the process Monday. Wieters' agent, Scott Boras, is optimistic that his client will be ready for Opening Day, but that probably will not be known for certain until sometime in spring training.
