Davidson went 2-for-2 with a pair of home runs and four RBI against the Dodgers on Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
His home runs came off uber-prospect Jose De Leon and former-major leaguer Jamey Wright. Davidson had been left for dead after a few below-average seasons at Triple-A, but he now has four home runs and a 1.523 OPS in 22 Cactus League at-bats. That still isn't good enough to warrant an Opening Day spot, but it should keep him on the radar at Charlotte and perhaps appear at the team's now-vacant DH slot at some point.

Davidson went 2-for-3 with a double and home run Wednesday against Triple-A Durham. The home run was already Davidson's third of the season, and he is slugging a healthy .533 through 45 at-bats. Unfortunately, he has also struck out 16 times already, and his .289 average will likely tumble when his .385 BABIP begins to decline. Still, if he can keep things hot, then a promotion to Chicago may not be out of the question, especially if Conor Gillaspie is unable to recapture his 2014 magic.

The White Sox optioned Davidson to Triple-A Charlotte on Wednesday, the Daily Herald reports. Davidson struggled to make good contact this spring, going 2-for-14 with just one extra-base hit in his eight games played. The White Sox are not pulling the plug quite yet, but it is clear that there is a fair amount of work to do before he can compete for the club's third base gig. Expect Conor Gillaspie to serve as the Sox's third baseman for much of the year.

Davidson will be given an opportunity to compete for an Opening Day roster spot during spring training, according to White Sox manager Robin Ventura. Davidson's production fell off a cliff last season at Triple-A Charlotte (.199/.283/.362), but he still managed to hit 20 home runs while striking out an astonishing 164 times in 478 at-bats. While he previously showed a propensity to swing and miss, Davidson had never hit below .261 at a full-season stop in the minors while playing against older competition throughout his ascent in the Arizona system. If he rebounds in 2015, Davidson may push Conor Gillaspie for playing time at third base.

White Sox third base prospect Matt Davidson went 2-for-5 with two doubles for Triple-A Charlotte on Wednesday, raising his season line to .206/.282/.419. Davidson has been hot as of late, hitting .267/.344/.605 with five doubles and eight home runs over his last 24 games. His strikeout rate is troubling, but his power has been shining as of late. Every month, sis strikeout rate has decreased and his OPS has increased. If he keeps hitting, he could see some time at the hot corner on the South Side before the end of 2014. This could be a great buy-low opportunity.

White Sox third base prospect Matt Davidson went 2-for-4 with two home runs on Monday for Triple-A Charlotte. Davidson's .201/.280/.414 season line is ugly, but he hit .239/.327/.565 with three doubles and nine home runs in June, which was punctuated by hitting .353/.476/.794 with four home runs over his last ten games. Conor Gillaspe has settled into the starting third base position, but Davidson could see time if he continues to hit.

White Sox third base prospect Matt Davidson went 2-for-4 with a home run on Monday, raising his season line to .186/.256/.372. Davidson's season has been an unmitigated disaster, but he has hit better in June, putting up a .200/.259/.500 line with five home runs. He will need to hit at least .250 to have a chance for a promotion, and his struggles have severely dimmed the possibility that he will see time in the major leagues in 2014.

White Sox prospect 3B Matt Davidson was 1-for-3 with his third home run of the season Thursday for Triple-A Charlotte. Acquired from the Diamondbacks during the offseason, Davidson was assigned to Charlotte after failing to make the White Sox' Opening Day roster. The 23-year-old has struggled at the plate during the first month of the season, batting .172/.250/.333 with a 41/9 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 25 games. And while all three of his home runs this year have come Davidson's last 10 games, he's also posted a .536 OPS with 16 strikeouts during that span. With Marcus Semien off to a solid start this season and now playing mostly third base after Gordon Beckham's return from the disabled list, the White Sox have no reason to rush Davidson to the major leagues.

White Sox third base prospect Matt Davidson continued his cold start in 2014 as he went 0-for-3 on Friday, his fifth consecutive game without a hit. To say that Davidson has been cold to start the season may be an understatement, as he is hitting just .167/.244/.282, including .091/.180/.164 over his past 15 games. Davidson was the odds-on favorite to take over third base on the south side and hit .308/.341/.564 in spring training, but was sent to Triple-A to start the season. Davidson needs to get back on track soon or else may become a forgotten man.

White Sox optioned 3B Matt Davidson, OF Jordan Danks and RHP Jake Petricka to Triple-A Charlotte; reassigned RHP Dylan Axelrod to minor league camp. When Chicago dealt Addison Reed to Arizona for Davidson, the thinking was that the third base prospect would immediately take over the hot corner job. The White Sox are instead exercising some restraint (and perhaps some service time suppression) by giving the job to Conor Gillaspie to start the season. Danks and Petricka will provide ready-made injury replacements at Charlotte. Petricka is coming off a season in which he surged all the way to the big league roster, posting a 1.81 ERA and 58/25 K/BB ratio over 54 2/3 innings between Double-A and Triple-A.
