Matt Davidson went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run as the White Sox fell to the Angels 14-10 on Wednesday. Davidson took Cory Rasmus deep in the seventh inning, helping bring the White Sox back into the ballgame. Davidson now has two homers on the spring and is hitting .286. He could make the 25-man roster as the starting shortstop, but still has some defensive concerns which could mean he starts in Triple-A.

Matt Davidson will have to show improvement to break camp with the White Sox, Dan Hayes of CSN Chicago reports. "It certainly is possible he breaks with us Opening Day, but if that's not the case we'll see a lot of him this season once we feel he truly is ready," White Sox general manager Rick Hahn said on MLB Network's 'Clubhouse Confidential' Tuesday. "There's still a few areas he's going to improve in and we need to see some refinement." We have Davidson penciled in as the White Sox' starter at third base, but Hayes said both Jeff Keppinger and Conor Gillaspie slot ahead of him on the depth chart. It's clear that Davidson offers the most upside -- both in fantasy and in reality -- of the three, but the team won't just hand him the job to start the season. It's a position battle to minor closely this spring.

White Sox general manager Rick Hahn believes Matt Davidson is still improving defensively. Hahn acquired Davidson from the Diamondbacks for closer Addison Reed on Monday with the intention of making him Chicago's everyday third baseman. "Solid actions, strong arms, good hands," Hahn said. "The question you'll hear from time to time with scouts and has been written about publicly is about the lateral movement. We think it has improved. We think it's going to continue to improve. We see him over there for the long term once the development is finished." Davidson, the 35th overall pick in the 2009 MLB Amateur Draft, slashed .280/.350/.481 with 17 home runs, 32 doubles and 74 RBI in 115 games this past season at Triple-A Reno.

White Sox acquired 3B Matt Davidson from the Diamondbacks for RHP Addison Reed. Davidson, the 35th overall pick in the 2009 MLB Amateur Draft, was a .280/.350/.481 hitter with 17 homers, 32 doubles and 74 RBI in 115 games this past season at Triple-A. Reed is a solid closer with a strong amount of upside, but this is a pretty good get for the rebuilding White Sox. Davidson seems likely to open the 2014 season as Chicago's starting third baseman.

Matt Davidson had another big day at the plate in Sunday's 13-9 victory over the Rockies, going 2-for-4 with a homer and four RBI. Davidson doubled home a run off starter Juan Nicasio in the third inning, and added a three-run blast off Chad Bettis as part of a five-run ninth inning. The young third baseman has started to state his case to become the D'Backs regular third baseman in 2014, hitting .250/.357/.467 with three homers and 11 RBI in his first 60 at-bats.

Matt Davidson swatted the first home run of his big league career in Sunday's victory over the Rockies. Davidson victimized Wilton Lopez for the solo blast in the fifth inning, on a fastball that caught way too much of the plate. He's now hitting .224/.296/.347 with a homer, 4 RBI and a 5/15 BB/K ratio through 46 at-bats with the Diamondbacks.

Diamondbacks recalled INF Matt Davidson from Triple-A Reno. Davidson hit .179/.233/.179 in 30 plate appearances earlier this season with the Snakes. The 22-year-old infielder probably won't play much down the stretch.

Diamondbacks optioned 3B Matt Davidson to Triple-A Reno. Davidson didn't get a ton of playing time during his few weeks with the big club and batted only .179/.233/.179 over 30 plate appearances. He'll return next month.

Matt Davidson will start at third base Wednesday against the Orioles. It will be his first start since being called up from the minors over the weekend. Martin Prado is making the start in left field while Adam Eaton is on the bench.

Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson said he plans to use Matt Davidson in a backup role. It's never ideal to call up a top prospect and have him ride the bench, but the D'Backs mainly called Davidson up as insurance at third base while Eric Chavez was out. "You tend to go more with your veteran guys right now at this point in the season," Gibson said. "At the same time, [we'll] try to work him into good situations."
