Matt Cain exited Wednesday's start against the Rockies with a right hamstring strain. It appeared that he sustained the injury on the final pitch of the third inning. Cain was dealing before the injury, keeping the Rockies hitless while striking out three in his three innings of work. A trip to the 15-day disabled list could be in Cain's immediate future.

Matt Cain left after the third inning of Wednesday's game against the Rockies due to a possible right hamstring injury. Cain caught Charlie Blackmon looking to end the third, but he appeared to be in some discomfort walking off the mound after the inning. Yusemiero Petit started the fourth inning in Cain's place. The right-hander didn't allow a hit or a walk in his three innings of work, striking out three, before exiting. The Giants should update his status after the game.

Matt Cain allowed four earned runs in 7 2/3 innings to lead the Giants to a 6-4 win against the Marlins on Thursday. The right-hander wasn't exactly sharp -- he struck out seven and walked three -- but he really didn't need to be with Giants hitters battering Miami starter Nate Eovaldi. It looked like Cain would be the one chased from the contest prematurely after he served up a solo home run to Derek Dietrich in the first inning and a two-run Garrett Jones blast in the second. The veteran got it together eventually, hurling 3 2/3 shutout innings from the fourth on to earn his first victory of the year. Cain, now 1-3 with a 4.33 ERA and 1.31 WHIP, hits the road to face the dangerous Rockies' lineup in Coors next week.

Matt Cain surrendered two earned runs in five-plus innings as the Giants fell to the Dodgers on Saturday. Cain went unscored upon until the bottom of the sixth inning, when the Dodgers rattled off two runs on two walks and two singles. It was a decent overall showing from the right-hander, who had just returned from the disabled list after missing two weeks with a lacerated index finger. He will take on the Marlins next.

Matt Cain (finger) expects to be activated to pitch Saturday against the Dodgers. Cain was scratched from a start last Tuesday after he cut his right index finger on a kitchen knife while making himself a pregame sandwich. He felt like the wound was going to reopen when he tried throwing without protection on Sunday, so the Giants played it safe and put him on the disabled list. Fortunately, it doesn't sound like a long-term concern.

Giants placed RHP Matt Cain on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 24, with a lacerated finger. Cain was scratched from Tuesday's start when he cut his right index finger on a kitchen knife while making himself a pregame sandwich. He's expected to need only a minimum stint on the disabled list, but now the Giants must scramble to fill his spot in the rotation for Monday's tilt against the Pirates.

Giants manager Bruce Bochy said that Matt Cain (finger) will be fine for his next start. Cain had to be scratched from Tuesday's outing when he cut his right index finger on a kitchen knife, but it's a small cut and isn't really an issue. He'll get the ball next Monday in Pittsburgh.
