Matt Cain allowed four earned runs in 7 2/3 innings to lead the Giants to a 6-4 win against the Marlins on Thursday. The right-hander wasn't exactly sharp -- he struck out seven and walked three -- but he really didn't need to be with Giants hitters battering Miami starter Nate Eovaldi. It looked like Cain would be the one chased from the contest prematurely after he served up a solo home run to Derek Dietrich in the first inning and a two-run Garrett Jones blast in the second. The veteran got it together eventually, hurling 3 2/3 shutout innings from the fourth on to earn his first victory of the year. Cain, now 1-3 with a 4.33 ERA and 1.31 WHIP, hits the road to face the dangerous Rockies' lineup in Coors next week.
