Manny Machado (knee) still doesn't have a target date for his return to game action, reports Christina De Nicola of MLB.com. "When I'm 110 percent -- I don't know whether it's in two months or next week -- it's something I'll just have to get a feel for," Machado said. "And once I'm out there playing every day, I'll have more of an idea when and where I can start." Machado remains ahead of schedule in his rehab from October surgery to repair a torn medial patellofemoral ligament in his left knee. Even if he's not starting at third base for the Orioles on Opening Day, it seems like he'll be back on the field sooner than later.

Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun reports that Manny Machado's (knee) checkup Thursday went well and he's currently 6-8 weeks ahead of schedule. That's presumably 6-8 weeks ahead of the original timetable of six months, which the Orioles said was a conservative estimate. The reality is that nothing has really changed, as the O's have said for a while that they thought Machado would be ready for Opening Day, and that's still the case. The young infielder can now begin baseball activities and shouldn't be too terribly far behind in spring training as long as his rehab continues to go well.

Manny Machado (knee) could be cleared to resume baseball activities during a checkup with Dr. Neal ElAttrache on Thursday. Dr. ElAttrache is who performed Machado's left knee surgery last October. Although the young infielder will not attend the Orioles' minicamp this week, manager Buck Showalter said it's a result of ill-timed scheduling rather than a setback with Machado's recovery. The O's are expecting Machado to be ready to roll by Opening Day.

Orioles manager Buck Showalter said Thursday that Manny Machado (knee) remains on track to be ready by Opening Day. Machado's recovery from left knee surgery has been seamless to this point. He'll be behind at the start of spring training, and we won't know for sure that he'll be ready for Opening Day until he ramps things up. However, to this point everything has come along as hoped.

Manny Machado is encouraged by the initial progress of his surgically-repaired left knee. Machado is working out at the University of Miami, doing daily pool work and stabilization exercises. "Pretty much, it's been going great," the young third baseman told MLB.com. "Every session I get stronger and better, and that's what we are looking for right now." He is aiming to be in the Orioles' starting lineup on Opening Day.

Orioles manager Buck Showalter said Wednesday that Manny Machado (knee) has a "real chance" to be ready by Opening Day. Machado was given a six-month timetable after surgery last month on his left knee, but Showalter said it was a conservative estimate. "We put a real safe date on it," Showalter said. "I think he's got a real chance to make the start of the season. [He] needs to play in [spring] games by March 15 to make the season." Showalter added that Machado, who would be five months removed from surgery on March 15, is doing "well" in his rehab to this point. "I know Dan [Duquette] was at the Gold Glove [ceremony]. He said he couldn't even tell [Machado] was limping. But so far, so good."

Manny Machado won the 2013 Rawlings American League Platinum Glove Award, recognizing the best defensive player in the league. Machado becomes just the second winner of the award, after Adrian Beltre took home the honors the first two years of its existence. Only players who won Rawlings Gold Glove Awards were eligible, and a combination of SABR's defensive index metric and fan votes were used to determine the winner. A shortstop by trade, the 21-year-old phenom won by a significant margin, besting Dustin Pedroia and J.J. Hardy.

Manny Machado has been named the 2013 American League Gold Glove winner at third base. The AL field at third base was probably the toughest, which speaks as to how outstanding Machado was. Probably the only thing that will keep him from winning multiple awards at the position is an eventual move to shortstop. He beat out the Rangers' Adrian Beltre and the Rays' Evan Longoria.

Manny Machado is unlikely to be ready for Opening Day following surgery Monday on his left knee. The surgery, which included an arthroscopy and open reconstruction of the medial patellar femoral ligament, went "as expected." However, he was given a timetable of six months rather than the 4-6 months as originally expected, which means Machado is expected to miss all of spring training. He'll rehab for a few weeks in California, where he had the surgery, before moving his rehab to Miami.

Manny Machado will undergo his reconstructive left knee surgery on Monday. Assuming all goes well, the O's stellar young third baseman will be looking at a 4-6 month timeframe for his recovery. Five months would put him on schedule for the middle of March, so there's a chance that he could be ready to go for Opening Day.
