Machado leads the majors with 21 doubles through 47 games. At this rate, he could become the first player since 1936 to make it to 60 doubles in a season. Colorado's Todd Helton had 59 in 2000 while teammate Brian Roberts had 56 in 2009. Earl Webb set the all-time record with 67 back in 1931.

While he isn't fully used to, or comfortable with the position yet, Machado has been working hard to improve his overall defense there. While expectations should be tempered from a fantasy perspective for 2012, Machado is developing into one of the brighter young stars in all of baseball.

Machado has since made a full recovery and should be perfectly fine for the start of spring training next February. The 20-year-old batted .262/.294/.445 with seven home runs and 26 RBI over his first 202 major-league plate appearances. He'll start at third base in 2013.
