Severino got off to a rough start, coughing up three runs in the first inning. He gave up one more over the next four frames before Eugenio Suarez knocked him out of the game with a solo shot in the sixth inning. Severino still earned his first win since April 17 in the chaotic 10-9 contest. He ends May with a subpar 4.91 ERA and 23:16 K:BB through 29 frames. Severino will carry a 3.52 ERA into his next start, which is lined up to be in Washington.

Severino came away with a no-decision in Saturday's 7-2 extra-inning loss to the Giants, allowing one run on two hits and three walks over seven innings. He struck out six.

EDGE Analysis

The right-hander pitched well enough to secure his third win of the season and left the mound with the Mets nursing a 2-1 lead, but Edwin Diaz blew another save in the ninth inning before the Mets' bullpen fell apart completely in the 10th. Severino settled for his fourth quality start instead, but he's been producing solid numbers in 2024 despite a 10.6 percent walk rate that would be the highest of his career if he can't rein it in. He'll take a 3.22 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 50:26 K:BB through 58.2 innings into his next outing, which is scheduled to come at home next week against the Diamondbacks.

Severino had limited the Marlins to just two runs through six innings of work. He was sent back out for the seventh, though, in a decision Mets manager Carlos Mendoza probably wishes he could have back. Severino gave up a walk, two hits and two runs in the frame before being pulled and another run was added to his line when an inherited runner scored. In three May starts, Severino has an ugly 13:12 K:BB across 16.2 innings.

Severino served up a solo home run to Jarred Kelenic in the second inning but otherwise limited the damage. His struggles stemmed from a lack of command, as he doled out out a career-high six walks, with two of those batters coming around to score. Still, Severino's ERA sits at 2.93 through 40 innings. He's lined up for a start Saturday against Atlanta, which is a tough matchup for a bounce-back.

Severino was locked into a pitchers duel with Jameson Taillon, as the pair of starters each went deeper than seven innings while allowing just one run. Individually, Severino took a no-hitter into the eighth. However, Severino's efforts were for naught as Edwin Diaz surrendered a pair of runs in the ninth inning, leading to the Cubs' win. After posting a career-worst 6.65 ERA across 89.1 innings in 2023, Severino boasts a 2.31 ERA through 35.0 innings in his first season with the Metropolitans. He's lined up to face the Rays on Saturday.

Severino (2-2) took the loss Tuesday against the Giants, allowing three runs on five hits while striking out five over six innings.

Severino held the Giants scoreless through four frames before four singles in the fifth plated three runs, with only one of those knocks being a hard-hit ball. It was his second start of the year allowing no walks and his second straight quality outing after failing to reach six frames in each of his first three starts. Henry Davis reached base to lead off the third inning on a catcher's interference call against Francisco Alvarez and came around to score, but that was the only damage on Severino's line. The right-hander produced his first quality start of the season on 96 pitches (61 strikes), and his 2.14 ERA comes with a 21:9 K:BB through four outings and 21 innings. Severino will take the mound next on the road early next week in San Francisco.

A fielding error by second baseman Jeff McNeil led to the first run of the game, and Severino gave the Reds another run on a bases-loaded walk later in the same inning. However, he buckled down from there and left with a three-run lead, only for the bullpen to give it up. Severino has a 3.60 ERA, 1.60 WHIP and 13:2 K:BB through two starts spanning 10 innings. A projected matchup in Atlanta next week dings his short-term outlook, but the veteran righty will be in the streaming conversation most weeks and should remain rostered in most fantasy leagues, especially in light of the rash of pitching injuries around the league.
