Severino (0-1) took the loss to the Cubs on Tuesday, coughing up six runs (five earned) on six hits and three walks over six innings. He struck out six.
EDGE Analysis
After an impressive Opening Day debut for the A's, Severino crashed back to earth Tuesday. Three of the six hits against the right-hander went for extra bases, including a three-run blast by Seiya Suzuki in the first inning before Severino had even recorded an out, and a solo shot by the red-hot Kyle Tucker in the third. Severino has given the A's some length, working six innings in each of his first two starts of the year, but he's also issued at least three free passes in each. He'll take a 3.75 ERA and 12:7 K:BB into his next outing, which is scheduled to come at home early next week against the Padres.

Severino didn't factor in the decision Thursday against Seattle after striking out six and allowing three hits and four walks over six scoreless innings.
EDGE Analysis
The right-hander was a bit wild at times with four free passes and a hit-by-pitch, but he kept the Mariners off the board by scattering the baserunners and not giving up any extra-base hits. Severino missed out on the victory when the A's bullpen was unable to maintain a 1-0 lead, but it was still a strong debut with the team after inking a two-year, $45 million contract in December. He lines up to pitch against the Cubs next week.

EDGE Analysis
Severino gave a strong performance in his A's debut as his bullpen blew a late lead. He picked up where he left off with the Mets in 2024 with a bounceback season, where he had 3.91 ERA and 1.24 WHIP across 31 regular-season starts last season.

The Athletics announced Monday that Severino will start their March 27 season opener versus the Mariners in Seattle, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Severino became the obvious choice to take the hill for the Athletics on Opening Day the moment he signed a three-year, $67 million contract in December, the largest guaranteed deal in franchise history. After injuries limited him to fewer than 20 starts in each of his final five seasons with the Yankees from 2019 through 2023, Severino proved to be durable in his lone campaign with the Mets in 2024, turning in a 3.91 ERA and 1.24 WHIP across 31 starts. The Athletics are banking on the 31-year-old Severino avoiding the pitfalls on the health front that plagued him throughout his twenties and emerging as a capable innings eater at the front of the rotation in 2025.

Severino surrendered two runs on three hits and two walks while striking out four over three innings during Monday's Cactus League loss to the White Sox.
EDGE Analysis
Severino had a tough time settling in and allowed both runs in the top of the first inning, but he looked sharp in his final two frames of work. This is simply part of the spring training process for the 31-year-old, who inked a three-year, $67 million contract with the Athletics in December to lead the club's starting rotation.

The Athletics agreed to a three-year, $67 million contract with Severino on Thursday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Per Joel Sherman of the New York Post, the deal includes an opt out after the second year. It's an unexpected landing spot for Severino, to say the least, as the $67 million guarantee is the largest in Athletics history. Severino held a 3.91 ERA and 161:60 K:BB over 182 innings across 31 regular-season starts for the Mets in 2024. The A's will play the 2025-27 seasons in Sacramento before moving to their permanent home in Las Vegas in 2028.

Severino has rejected the Mets' one-year, $21.05 million qualifying offer, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.
EDGE Analysis
Severino might not be able to match the $21.05 average annual value of the qualifying offer on a multi-year contract, but he should still do pretty well in free agency. The Mets are interested in bringing the right-hander back, but if they're unable to they will net a draft pick when Severino signs elsewhere. Severino, who turns 31 in February, held a 3.91 ERA and 161:60 K:BB over 182 innings across 31 regular-season starts for the Mets in 2024.

Will Sammon of The Athletic relays that Severino is unlikely to accept the Mets' $21.05 million qualifying offer.
EDGE Analysis
The deadline for players to make a decision on a qualifying offer is Tuesday, but it appears Severino is set to decline the Mets' offer in favor of attempting to land a multi-year offer. The 30-year-old right-hander signed a one-year, $13 million with the Mets in November of 2023 and had a quality 2024 campaign, going 11-7 across 31 starts with a 3.91 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 161:60 K:BB over 182 innings. It's certainly a risk for Severino, given the fact that he pitched just 209.1 innings from 2019 to 2023 due to various injuries.

The Mets extended a one-year, $21.05 million qualifying offer to Severino on Monday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
Severino held a 3.91 ERA and 161:60 K:BB over 182 innings across 31 regular-season starts for the Mets in 2024. If he rejects the qualifying offer and signs a multi-year deal elsewhere, the Mets will receive a draft pick as compensation.

Severino will start Wednesday in Game 3 of the NLCS against the Dodgers, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Severino will not be with the Mets in Los Angeles for Game 2, as he's already headed back to New York in advance of his Game 3 start so that he can get plenty of rest. The right-hander has posted quality starts in each of his two postseason outings so far, allowing a combined seven runs (six earned) with a 10:2 K:BB over 12 innings. He'll be opposed by Walker Buehler in Game 3.
