Lagares (thumb) is out of the lineup Sunday against the Marlins.
EDGE Analysis
Lagares did get a start against a right-hander this week, but will sit Sunday afternoon with tough righty Jose Fernandez on the hill for the Marlins. The absence of Lagares also may be related to the fact he sustained a bruised left thumb while making a diving catch in Saturday's matchup. Regardless of the exact reasoning, consider the speedy center fielder day-to-day heading into Monday's series opener with Pittsburgh. In the meantime, Alejandro De Aza will get the start in center with Yoenis Cespedes (hip) also getting the day off.

Lagares suffered a bruised left thumb Saturday when his glove got caught when he made a diving catch in left-center on ochre Suzuki saving two runs, ESPN New York reports.
EDGE Analysis
Lagares was still be examined after the game, as no doctor was on call at Marlins Park. He is hopeful that it's just a bruise and he won't miss much time, but at a minimum, he is likely out of the lineup Sunday.

Lagares hit his first homer of the season as part of a 3-for-4 effort with three RBI against the Dodgers on Friday.
EDGE Analysis
He picked up a start in center with lefty Julio Urias on the mound for the Dodgers and greeted the rookie with a two-run single as part of the Mets' three-run first inning. Lagares hasn't gotten a whole lot of playing time outside of serving as a defensive replacement late in games, but he's now hitting a cool .300 over 70 at-bats, which at least makes him of interest in NL-only formats. Too bad most leagues don't count his spectacular defense in the outfield.

Lagares went 2-for-4 in Tuesday's 3-2 loss to the Dodgers.
EDGE Analysis
The 27-year-old bounced back after he'd gone hitless over the last three games in which he'd recorded an at-bat. Lagares is slashing a respectable .271/.314/.354 through 46 at-bats, with three of his 13 hits going for extra bases. He figures to continue seeing regular playing time against southpaws, and his glove helps offset any offensive liabilities he may display from time to time.

Lagares will lead off and start in right field Sunday against the Giants, Adam Rubin of ESPN New York reports.
EDGE Analysis
Lagares typically mans center field when he's in the lineup, as he hasn't played in right since 2013. Nonetheless, he'll be called upon to take the spot of Curtis Granderson in what is likely an effort to get more right-handed bats in the lineup against tough southpaw Madison Bumgarner.

Lagares is starting in center field Saturday against the Braves.
EDGE Analysis
The Mets will give Yoenis Cespedes the day off, inserting Lagares in center while Michael Conforto and Curtis Gradnerson hold down their usual spots in left and right field, respectively. It will be only the third start of the season for Lagares.

Lagares is on the bench for Tuesday's game against Chris Young and the Royals, Adam Rubin of ESPN New York reports.
EDGE Analysis
With a righty on the hill, Alejandro De Aza starts in center with Michael Conforto at designated hitter. This decision is not a huge surprise, as most of Lagares' action will come against lefties, despite Sunday's start versus Edinson Volquez. Lagares carried his strong spring training play into the year, looking fluid in center field while dispelling any lingering concerns about his elbow on a throw to third base.

Lagares will play center field against lefty pitchers, the NY Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
Against righties, Michael Confoto will be in left, Yoenis Cespedes in center and Curtis Granderson in right . When a lefty starts, Cespedes will shift to left, Lagares will play center and either Conforto or Granderson will be in right field with the other on the bench. Originally, manager Terry Collins had considered leaving Lagares in left and Cespedes in center, but decided to play Lagares and Cespedes in their natural positions.
