Phegley underwent surgery Tuesday to remove a cruciate ligament cyst from his right knee, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
An estimated recovery timetable was not immediately offered up, but team trainer Nick Paparesta said the procedure was "about as minor as knee surgery can be." Matt McBride was summoned to replace Phegley on the roster and should see most of the starts against left-handed pitching.

Phegley (knee) was placed on the 15-day DL on Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
The Athletics have already diagnosed Phegley with a strained right knee, but according to Joe Stiglich of CSN California, manager Bob Melvin has expressed some concern that surgery might be a possibility for the backstop. Phegley recently underwent an MRI, but until the results are made available, we won't have a clear idea on his return timetable. Matt McBride was recalled from Triple-A Nashville in a corresponding move, and he'll replace Phegley as the top backup to Stephen Vogt behind the plate.

Phegley is expected to go on the disabled list with right knee soreness, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
This is the same knee that landed Phegley on the disabled list back in May. At that time, he received a cortisone shot and had been feeling good since, but the knee started to bother him Saturday.

Phegley left Tuesday's game after being hit by a pitch, but believes he will be fine, Mark Chiarelli of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The 28-year-old catcher was hit in the kneecap by an Alex Claudio pitch in the ninth inning and after struggling to walk to first base was pulled for a pinch runner. After the game he said that after walking around for a few minutes, he was fine. He should be ready for his next appearance.

Phegley homered and knocked in three runs in a 2-for-5 game in Monday's win over the Rangers.
EDGE Analysis
Phegley has been making consistent contact all season but had yet to see it turn into any power, as Monday marked his first home run in 18 games. He homered nine times in 73 games last year and now has 16 in 167 games. He managed 38 in 168 Triple-A games between 2013 and 2014 as well. Phegley never hit for average like this in the minors, so expect more home runs but fewer multi-hit games as the season progresses.

Phegley went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored in Saturday's 12-3 victory over the Tigers.
EDGE Analysis
The 28-year-old backstop celebrated his return from a DL stint due to knee inflammation by recording the first multi-hit game of his injury-shortened May. The offensive success was a welcome sight for Phegley, who'd endured a 1-for-12 start to the month before the knee ailment forced him off the diamond. Despite the pre-injury struggles, Phegley is still slashing .317/.349/.390 on the season, and has once again proven particularly proficient against southpaws.

Phegley is in the lineup for Saturday's tilt with the Tigers.
EDGE Analysis
Phegley will play catcher and bat seventh in the order. He replaces Stephen Vogt behind the plate. The move makes sense as the A's are matching up against the left-handed Matt Boyd. Phegley is 4-for-14 against southpaws on the year.

Phegley (knee) was reinstated from the disabled list Friday.
EDGE Analysis
The A's receive some much-needed depth behind the plate Friday with Phegley's return from an inflamed right knee. He'll serve as Stephen Vogt's backup behind the plate, but his presence could result in manager Bob Melvin using Vogt instead of Yonder Alonso at first base on occasion. The A's optioned Matt McBride in a corresponding move Friday.

Phegley (knee) will likely rejoin the Athletics on Friday in time for their series opener against the Tigers, Jane Lee of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Phegley began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Nashville on Saturday as the designated hitter and then moved on to catching Sunday. He's expected to catch both Tuesday and Wednesday, which would keep the 28-year-old in line to reclaim his spot as the A's backup catcher by the end of the week as long as everything goes as planned.
