Phegley was scratched from Wednesday's lineup prior to the contest against Toronto, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
EDGE Analysis
Phegley was originally plugged into the lineup at the catcher's position, but will head back to the bench while Bruce Maxwell takes over for Wednesday's affair. The A's have yet to provide a reason for Phegley's removal, although manager Bob Melvin will likely discuss his absence if the catcher is suffering from an ailment or was involved in a trade.

Phegley went 2-for-4 with a double and a run in Friday's 7-5 loss to the Mets.
EDGE Analysis
The backstop's .208 average continues to lag behind that of previous seasons, but Phegley will continue to share catching duties with Bruce Maxwell. He has hit safely in three of his last four starts, although he's only seen action in five July contests partly due to having missed several games while on paternity leave.

Phegley was reinstated from the paternity list Saturday.
EDGE Analysis
Phegley was away from the team for a few days while attending to the birth of his second child, but returns just before the All-Star break. He'll slot back in as the primary catcher, but will presumably find himself in a platoon-like situation alongside fellow backstop Bruce Maxwelll, who is hitting .300 this season. Phegley, hitting just .200 over 115 at-bats, will need to show a bit more production at the plate if he aims to see consistent playing time moving forward.

Phegley was placed on the paternity list Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
Phegley is expecting the birth of his second child, so he'll step away for three games at the most. The 29-year-old has become part of a backstop platoon with Bruce Maxwell since the release of Stephen Vogt, though his .182 batting average last month doesn't inspire much confidence. Ryan Lavarnway, called up from Triple-A Nashville in a corresponding move, will take his place on the roster.

Phegley is not in the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the White Sox.
EDGE Analysis
Despite being named the primary catcher for the A's, Phegley will sit for a third straight contest in favor of recently recalled Bruce Maxwell -- who's gone 4-for-7 at the plate over the last two games. The departure of Stephen Vogt via DFA should open additional playing time for the veteran backstop, but it appears Maxwell will receive his fair share of playing time as well.

Phegley likely will see an increase in starts after the Athletics designated Stephen Vogt for assignment Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
He'll need to fend off Bruce Maxwell, whom the A's recalled Thursday, to establish domination over playing time, but Vogt's departure should give Phegley at least an extra start per week. However, outside of a decent power tool (20 home runs in 647 career at-bats, and three in 103 this year), Phegley doesn't offer a whole lot at the dish (career .229/.264/.369). As has been the case with many catchers, this could improve with time, but the 29-year-old remains useful chiefly in AL-only and some two-catcher mixed fantasy setups.

Phegley is out of the lineup Wednesday against the Indians.
EDGE Analysis
Phegley finds himself on the bench for the second time in the series with Stephen Vogt picking up the starting nod behind the dish. Manager Bob Melvin has essentially deployed the two backstops in a timeshare over the last two weeks, but as the more established option of the two, Vogt still projects to hold greater long-term fantasy value. Phegley should still be in store for a handful of starts per week until Vogt dramatically improves his pedestrian .220/.273/.364 season line.

Phegley is out of the lineup Monday against the Indians.
EDGE Analysis
Phegley had been seeing extra time while Yonder Alonso dealt with a wrist injury, but that pace is unlikely to continue with Alonso back at first. Stephen Vogt will be back behind the plate for the afternoon contest.

Phegley will start at catcher and bat seventh Sunday against the Yankees.
EDGE Analysis
With Yonder Alonso (wrist) missing seven of the previous eight games, the Athletics have been able to find room in the lineup for both of their catchers (Stephen Vogt and Phegley) lately. Although Alonso is back in the lineup Sunday, manager Bob Melvin will keep Phegley's bat in the starting nine after the backstop went 6-for-17 over his last five starts. It's expected that Phegley's at-bats will take a hit once he cools off at the plate, but in the short term, he could make for a usable option in deeper two-catcher leagues.

Phegley was reinstated from the 7-day concussion disabled list Friday.
EDGE Analysis
Phegley has missed the last seven games after taking a pitch off his face mask last Wednesday, but appears ready to return to his backup catching role behind Stephen Vogt. The 29-year-old is hitting just .206 with one home run this season in limited time and remains a reach in fantasy formats. Phegley takes the roster spot of Jharel Cotton, who was optioned to the minors Thursday.
