Jay is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Giants.
EDGE Analysis
Travis Jankowski will start in center field once again as Wil Myers leads off with Jay on the bench for the third straight game. Lefty Madison Bumgarner is toeing the rubber for San Francisco on Tuesday, but Jay's absences Saturday and Sunday came against opposing right-handed starters. It's still not entirely clear whether an injury is in play or if the team just wants to see more of Jankowski.

Jay remains out of the lineup for Sunday's matchup with the Brewers, Dennis Lin of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
Jay was given the day off Saturday as well, so his absence Sunday is admittedly a bit unusual. This will mark the third time in the last six games the the Padres have started Travis Jankowski in center field, so perhaps there is an undisclosed injury in play, or the Padres are attempting to get a longer look at Jankowski. Jay has started 35 games in center for the Padres this year and posted a respectable .280/.340/.371 slash line, so one wouldn't think he is being rested for performance-related reasons, but only time will tell for sure.

Jay is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Diamondbacks, according to MLB.com's AJ Cassavell.
EDGE Analysis
Jay has started every game this season for the Padres, but he will get the day off Sunday as the team employs a righty-heavy lineup against Diamondbacks starter Patrick Corbin. Melvin Upton will cover center field Sunday in Jay's place, and Jabari Blash will replace Upton in left field.

Manager Andy Green confirmed Tuesday that Jay will bat leadoff on Opening Day, Dennis Lin of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
Jay clubbed two home runs off the Dodgers' Ross Stripling on Tuesday, giving him five homers and a .339/.391/.678 batting line for the spring. After the game, Green named Jay his leadoff hitter for Opening Day against three-time Cy Young winner Clayton Kershaw. There has been some uncertainty as to whether Jay will play against lefties this season, but perhaps he'll be given a chance in an everyday role, at least to start the year.

Jay appears set to begin the season as San Diego's center fielder and leadoff hitter, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports. He's hitting .327 with two home runs this spring.
EDGE Analysis
Jay may play left and right field as well at times, but he looks set to begin the season in the everyday lineup. He also could sit against left-handed pitchers.

Jay was traded to the Padres for Jedd Gyorko on Tuesday, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
Jay seemed to fall out of favor with the Cardinals this season, as Randal Grichuck and Stephen Piscotty displaced the former starting center fielder and relegated him to an average platoon option for much of the season. While his numbers dipped badly this season (.210/.306/.257, one home run and 10 RBI), Jay was hampered by a variety of injuries in 2015 and he should hit closer to his career averages in a much less crowded outfield with the Padres. He'll likely slot in at left field to start, but that could change depending on what moves the team makes throughout the offseason.

Jay is not in the lineup Friday against the Brewers.
EDGE Analysis
Friday marks the ninth straight game Jay has been held out of the starting lineup, as he appears to have lost his standing as an everyday player. Tommy Pham will get another start in center field and bat second.

Jay is not in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Brewers.
EDGE Analysis
Jay will give way to Tommy Pham, who homered twice in Wednesday's game. While Jay will not start Thursday, he did get the nod in center field in eight of the 11 games leading up to Thursday's contest.
