Nelson (5-6) was lit up by the Giants in a loss Wednesday afternoon. He lasted just 3.2 innings, giving up eight runs (six earned) on eight hits while walking three and striking out two.
EDGE Analysis
Nelson had all sorts of problems while losing his third consecutive start. The right-hander was unable to make it out of the fourth inning for the first time this season and matched his career high of eight runs allowed. His ERA ballooned to a season-high 3.92 and his WHIP increased to 1.35. In eleven tries over the first two months of the season, Nelson tallied eight quality starts. However, he's cooled off immensely and has failed to notch one quality outing in three June starts.

Nelson (5-5) gave up eight hits and a couple walks over 5.1 innings Thursday, but limited the Mets to two runs in a losing effort. He struck out five and hit a batter.
EDGE Analysis
He was fortunate that the Mets left a small village on the bases, as things could have gone much worse. Still, a pair of outings against NL East teams has provided a harsh wake-up call to Nelson, who's allowed 15 hits and eight runs over just 9.1 innings spanning starts versus the Mets and Phillies. That's taken a little of the shine off his season stats, particularly his WHIP (now inflated to 1.28), but he's nonetheless generally provided a rare degree of stability in the Milwaukee rotation. That said, his FIP (4.91) is almost a point and a half higher than his 3.43 ERA, suggesting that continued BABIP regression will bite Nelson as the season goes on. Of course, we're talking about a guy who throws hard and just two years ago was arguably the best pitcher in the minor leagues; it's not inconceivable that he could make some adjustments and improve his efficiency moving forward.

Nelson was hammered for six runs on seven hits, walking three and striking out one while lasting just four innings in a 6-3 loss to Philadelphia on Friday night.
EDGE Analysis
This broke a string of four consecutive quality starts - eight of his 11 starts have been quality. However, it should be noted that Nelson (5-4)sometimes litters the bases with extra runners. He has generally been able to wiggle off the hook, but any tine you put extra runners on base, you run the risk of a big inning. He'll try to get back on track in his next start against the Mets in Milwaukee.

Nelson (5-3) escaped an early jam Sunday to pick up the win over the Reds, allowing two runs on six hits and two walks over 7.1 innings while striking out five.
EDGE Analysis
It looked like Nelson was going to get a quick hook in the second inning after Cincinnati loaded the bases with nobody out, but Nelson wriggled off the hook thanks to a Tucker Barnhart double play and settled down after that. His 59:28 K:BB in 72 innings doesn't exactly support his 2.88 ERA, but Nelson has still delivered four straight quality starts and eight in 11 outings this season. His next turn in the rotation will come Friday in Philadelphia.

Nelson went six innings allowing one run on four hits and three walks while striking out eight in a no-decision against the Braves on Tuesday.
EDGE Analysis
The 26-year-old righty posted his third consecutive quality start, and he lowered his ERA under 3.00 for the first time since April 15. His value remains at an all-time high, and he will look to maintain this recent run of success in his next start Sunday against Cincinnati.

Nelson struggled with his control Wednesday -- he walked four, hit a batter and threw a wild pitch -- but still managed to hold the Cubs scoreless on five hits over 7.1 innings. He struck out five and didn't receive a decision in an eventual 12-inning defeat.
EDGE Analysis
Nelson's first scoreless outing of the season lowered his ERA to a shiny 3.07 and gave the Brewers a chance to win, but Jeremy Jeffress blew the save. Now seems like the most opportune moment to sell high on Nelson -- while does have the upside to be this good, perception of his value may be at an all-time peak, while his peripherals are screaming for regression.

Nelson (4-3) held the Padres to two runs on five hits and a walk over eight innings Thursday, striking out five in a 3-0 loss.
EDGE Analysis
Unfortunately, Nelson got no support whatsoever from his offense while delivering his strongest outing of the season. He's been a bit less than consistent, but the sum of Nelson's contributions has been a solid fantasy line. As he approaches his 27th birthday, Nelson still hasn't lived up to the potential he's shown in the minors, but the overall trend line has been nothing but positive.

Nelson allowed six runs, five of which were earned, and eight hits and one walk while striking out five over five innings, but received no decision Saturday at the Reds.
EDGE Analysis
Nelson put the Brewers in a four-run hole in the third inning, but the offense exploded in the late innings to take him off the hook for a potential loss. This was easily his worst start of the season, and it raised his ERA to 3.74. He'll make his next start Thursday against the Padres.

Nelson (4-2) held the Angels to two runs on four hits and three walks over seven innings with six strikeouts in a win Monday night.
EDGE Analysis
Nelson made one big mistake, a home run allowed to Mike Trout, but was otherwise sharp. He drew 10 swinging strikes and 11 ground ball outs in holding the Angels lineup in check. Nelson's ground ball rate is up to 53.8 percent, up from 50.6 percent in 2015 and 48.4 percent in 2014. His control has been shaky (17 walks in 38.1 innnings, 4.0 BB/9), but he'll have a margin of error to work with if he can keep throwing ground balls with regularity. Nelson's ERA is down to 3.05, exactly 2.5 runs better than the next best Brewers starter, Chase Anderson.

Nelson (3-2) allowed three runs (one earned) on two hits and four walks in a loss Tuesday against the Cubs. He struck out six.
EDGE Analysis
An Aaron Hill error set up the Cubs' two-run sixth inning, which cost Nelson both a chance at a win and at a quality start. Nelson was wild, with just 61 strikes in 109 pitches, but he induced 10 swinging strikes and recorded seven ground outs against three fly outs. The Cubs are one of the most disciplined teams in the league, and Nelson's safe approach could have worked out Tuesday if his defense had backed him up.
