Jason Isringhausen notched his 300th career save in New York's 5-4, 10-inning win in San Diego on Monday.
In typical Isringhausen fashion, he allowed two baserunners before inducing a game-ending groundout from Logan Forsythe. Izzy is just the 23rd pitcher in baseball history to reach the 300-save plateau. Now that Isringhausen has reached his milestone, it's quite possible the Mets might finally start mixing in Bobby Parnell in the ninth inning.

Jason Isringhausen notched his sixth save of the season Tuesday, striking out one during a scoreless ninth inning in a win over the Padres.
Izzy has tossed scoreless innings each of the last two days -- picking up a win and a save -- after getting a six-day breather because he had given up six runs over his previous four appearances. Bobby Parnell could get the ball in a save situation Wednesday if Mets manager Terry Collins doesn't want his 38-year-old closer pitching three straight days. Isringhausen is two saves away from 300.

Mets manager Terry Collins plans to give Jason Isringhausen the day off Wednesday.
Isringhausen has given up the go-ahead runs on back-to-back nights, so Collins will give him a bit of a breather. "He's the manager so I just do what I'm told," said Isringhausen. "If he needs me tomorrow, he'll tell me. If not, I'll just sit there and watch somebody else try to do the job." Bobby Parnell would likely get the ball in a potential save situation Wednesday.

Jason Isringhausen blew his first save since taking over the closer role in a 4-3 loss to the Marlins on Tuesday night.
Izzy loaded the bases with one out before Justin Turner made an ugly throwing error on a ground ball which allowed the tying and go-ahead runs to score. The last two losses don't fall completely on Isringhausen, but our money is still on Bobby Parnell closing games before the end of the season.

According to SI.com's Jon Heyman, closer Jason Isringhausen is "very unlikely" to be traded.
The Mets are probably hoping that Izzy qualifies as a Type B free agent this offseason and nets the club a compensatory draft pick when he signs elsewhere. The veteran right-hander has a strong 2.70 ERA in 36 2/3 innings this season for New York. Arizona had some level of interest.

Jason Isringhausen recorded his fourth save despite giving up a Joey Votto solo homer Thursday against the Reds.
It's the first run he's allowed in nine appearances since July 3, so this won't hurt his case for more save opps. He's now sitting at 297 career saves.

Jason Isringhausen is unavailable Tuesday after throwing 29 pitches in Monday's win over the Reds.
Izzy negotiated his way through a stressful ninth inning Monday night for his third save in three chances since taking over as closer. Bobby Parnell has pitched on back-to-back days, so Pedro Beato might get the ball in a potential save situation Tuesday night.

Jason Isringhausen notched his third save of the season Monday, striking out two during a scoreless ninth inning in a win over the Reds.
He surrendered two baserunners but escaped unscathed. Bobby Parnell was once again used as his eight-inning bridge, an arrangement that looks like it will hold for the rest of the season. According to Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal, the Mets are "reluctant" to deal Isringhausen because they value him as a mentor to their younger relievers. The resurgent 38-year-old now has 295 career saves. He has a nice 2.60 ERA and 1.15 WHIP this season.

According to Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal, the Mets are "reluctant" to deal reliever Jason Isringhausen.
Both Rosenthal and Sports Illustrated's Jon Heyman believe the Mets value Isringhausen as a mentor to their younger relievers. That's all good and well, but it's very hard to believe the Amazins won't unload the resurgent 38-year-old righty if the right offer comes along.

Jon Heyman of SI.com reports that the Mets "have apparently decided to keep" Jason Isringhausen.
There's been plenty of speculation that the Mets will trade Izzy before the deadline, but Heyman writes that they want him to mentor likely "closer of the future" Bobby Parnell. It's unlikely they would get much in return, anyway, plus Isringhausen has a legitimate chance at reaching 300 saves if he stays with the Mets for the rest of the season. He's currently at 294 for his career.
