Jason Isringhausen's agent, Dan Horwits, said Thursday that is client has not retired despite accepting a coaching position at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. The job at SIUE is a volunteer coaching position, so Izzy will be allowed to leave if he is able to find a major league gig. Interest in the 40-year-old has been scarce, though, so the odds are still pretty good that he's thrown his last pitch.

Jason Isringhausen has been hired to be the pitching coach at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. Which also means that his playing career has come to an end. "Izzy" collected 300 saves over the course of his 16-year major league career while registering a solid 3.64 career ERA in over 1,000 innings. He pitched for the Mets, Athletics, Cardinals, Rays and Angels. "I enjoy the teaching aspect. I feel like I have a lot to offer," Isringhausen told the SIUE athletics website.

Jason Isringhausen wants to pitch next season. "Izzy" has already drawn interest from three teams, according to CBS Sports' Jon Heyman. The 40-year-old right-hander posted a 4.14 ERA and 1.38 WHIP in 50 relief appearances this past summer for the Angels, striking out 31 batters and walking 19 in 45 2/3 frames.

Jason Isringhausen told a morning radio program Monday that he is likely to retire from baseball. "At this point, I'm pretty sure I'm done," said the 40-year-old right-hander. "But if some GM is dumb enough to want to sign me, I might come back for another year." Izzy posted a 4.14 ERA and 1.38 WHIP in 50 appearances this season for the Angels, fanning 31 batters in 45 2/3 innings.

Jason Isringhausen hasn't decided whether he'll retire. Izzy recently indicated that he was leaning in the direction of retirement. While he isn't ready to officially say that he's done, he certainly sounds at peace with the possibility. "I'll get ready for spring training like usual," said Isringhausen. "If no one calls, fine." The 40-year-old right-hander posted a 4.14 ERA and 31/19 K/BB ratio over 45 2/3 innings with the Angels this season and is tied for 22nd all-time with 300 saves.

Jason Isringhausen told MLB.com on Wednesday that he is likely to retire from baseball after the 2012 season. Izzy has two young daughters at home and turned 40 years old earlier this month. "I'll miss the competition," the veteran right-hander said Wednesday. "I love being on the mound throwing against hitters that are the best in the world. That's the only thing I do love. I don't like all the travel, I don't like all the politics and everything that goes on with it." He has posted a 4.14 ERA through 45 2/3 innings this season with Anaheim.

Jason Isringhausen coughed up a three-run lead in the seventh inning on Monday, although the Angels ended up prevailing 9-8. Izzy entered the seventh with two runners aboard, allowing one to score on a sacrifice fly, and then served up a two-run double to tie the game. Only one run was charged to the veteran reliever, who owns an impressive 2.55 ERA through 17 2/3 innings.

Angels purchased the contract of RHP Jason Isringhausen from Triple-A Salt Lake. He's now officially been added to the 40-man roster. Izzy didn't pitch particularly well this spring, allowing four runs over 5 2/3 innings, but he appears to be healthy and gives the Halos some experience in their bullpen. He'll likely be used in the sixth and seventh innings.

Jason Isringhausen has been told he will make the Angels' Opening Day roster. It's no surprise, as manager Mike Scioscia talked prior to the start of spring games as if Izzy was already locked in as a setup man. The fact that he's given up four runs over 5 2/3 spring innings hasn't affected his status.
