Lamb agreed to a contract with Atlanta on Sunday, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.

The financial terms of the deal have yet to to be released, but Lamb's recent track record suggests it will likely be of the minor-league variety. Lamb had a pair of strong seasons in 2016 and 2017, posting a combined wRC+ of 112, but he's been nowhere near that level since. Over the last three seasons, he's hit just .205/.309/.351 and hasn't had a wRC+ higher than 79 in any of them. That performance might work for a backup catcher, but it's not close to sufficient for a corner infielder. It would take quite a big bounceback for him to play a significant role this season.

Lamb isn't starting Game 3 of the ALDS against the Astros on Wednesday.

He figures to start at third base in Game 1 of the first round of the playoffs Tuesday, with right-hander Lucas Giolito expected to take the ball for the White Sox.

Lamb, who went 1-for-3 with a two-run single in a loss to the Giants on Sunday, delivered five total RBI on just three hits. including a home run, in the three-game weekend series against San Francisco.

The slugging third baseman squared up on his second home run in an Athletics' uniform in Saturday's 6-0 win, and he was one of the sole bright spots for Oakland in Sunday's disastrous 14-2 loss. One of the keys to Lamb looking like a drastically different hitter than the one the Diamondbacks essentially gave up on just over a week ago has been immediate reduction in strikeout rate; he's whiffed just three times over his first 23 plate appearances with the A's after going down on strikes 17 times in 50 plate appearances with Arizona.

Lamb, who was originally out of the lineup Wednesday against the Rockies, went 2-for-4 with an RBI single in a win over Colorado.

The apparently rejuvenated slugger continued to look like a completely different player than the one whose 5-for-43 line earlier in the season led to his release from the Diamondbacks. Lamb is now 5-for-12 with a home run, two RBI, a walk and three runs in three games with the Athletics, with his caliber of performance especially timely in the wake of Matt Chapman's season-ending hip injury.

Lamb is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rockies.

Though the Athletics are opposing a right-hander (German Marquez) in the series finale, the lefty-hitting Lamb will take a seat after two straight turns as Oakland's designated hitter. He thrived at the dish in his first two games with the club, going 3-for-7 with a home run, two doubles and three runs scored. Expect Lamb to continue to see steady work against right-handed pitching for the remainder of the regular season, and likely the playoffs as well if Chad Pinder (hamstring) is still sidelined.

The 29-year-old figures to get semi-consistent work between third base and DH with Matt Chapman (hip) on the shelf, but Lamb's .380 OPS in 50 plate appearances for Arizona this season prior to being DFA'd last week isn't encouraging from a fantasy standpoint.

Lamb will serve as the designated hitter for Game 2 of Monday's doubleheader against the Mariners, Lauren Smith of The Tacoma News Tribune reports.

The team officially announced Lamb's signing earlier in the day, and he'll see his first action out of the No. 6 spot in the lineup. He slashed .116/.240/.140 with an RBI across 18 games earlier this season with Arizona.
