Lamb could become Arizona's designated hitter if MLB adopts a universal DH for all teams in an abbreviated 2020 season, Mike Axisa of CBS Sports reports.
EDGE Analysis
A shift to universal DH gives Lamb a path to more consistent at-bats than he would have received in a normal season. He dealt with an injury in 2018, then lost a full-time job in 2019, but the left-handed hitting Lamb has a career .814 OPS against right-handers. At the very least, he could become the lefty portion of a DH platoon, possibly with Kevin Cron, a minor-league masher that's belted 44 home runs at Triple-A Reno and Arizona in 2019.

Lamb went 3-for-3 with two doubles, a home run and four RBI in Saturday's spring game against the Padres.
EDGE Analysis
Lamb told Richard Morin of the Arizona Republic that minimized movement in his swing resulted in the big day against San Diego. After he struck out against Royals right-hander Trevor Rosenthal on three pitches Wednesday, he worked to clean up the load in his swing. "Even against lefties, I've now been seeing everything really well. When I feel myself in that launch position, heel down, I feel that I can hit anybody," Lamb said after notching the three extra-base hits. The trick for Lamb will be to maintain the new swing mechanics while playing two or three times per week. At present, there isn't a spot for him in the everyday lineup.

Lamb went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored in Thursday's spring game against Texas.
EDGE Analysis
Lamb, who is 2-for-16 in seven spring appearances, doesn't have a clear path to at-bats in 2020. The 29-year-old corner infielder dealt with injuries in 2018 and 2019 and lost an everyday job at first base to Christian Walker. With Eduardo Escobar set to man third base, the left-handed hitting Lamb could play two-to-three games per week, likely against right-handers, against which the team finished 23rd in OPS (.728) last season. The question then becomes whether Lamb can maintain his swing mechanics playing every third day or so.

Lamb and the Diamondbacks agreed to a one-year, $5.515 million deal Friday, avoiding arbitration, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports.
EDGE Analysis
Lamb battled injuries again in 2019, receiving just 226 plate appearances. He wasn't good when healthy, hitting just .193/.323/.353, but the Diamondbacks are demonstrating faith in him by keeping him around.

Lamb hit a go-ahead, three-run home run in his only at-bat as a pinch hitter in Friday's 6-3 win over the Padres.
EDGE Analysis
In the midst of an eighth-inning rally, Lamb came to bat for pitcher Robby Scott. He then deposited the fourth pitch he saw over the fence to put the Diamondbacks ahead, ultimately for good. It's one of only a few highlights for the third baseman this year, who now has six homers, 30 RBI and 26 runs scored while batting .190/.317/.348 in 184 at-bats.

Lamb went 1-for-3 with a double and four RBI in Monday's 7-5 win over the Marlins.
EDGE Analysis
Lamb's bases-clearing double was the biggest hit in a four-run seventh inning, turning a deficit into a lead for the Diamondbacks. This was just the sixth start in the last 18 games for Lamb, who once was a lineup regular against right-handers but has since been replaced by Wilmer Flores. He's hitting just .195 since the All-Star break.

Lamb is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Reds.
EDGE Analysis
Lamb seems to have ceded his spot on the lineup versus right-handed pitching to Wilmer Flores, who will draw a start at second base in the series finale with Trevor Bauer on the mound for Cincinnati. Since the All-Star break, Lamb is slashing an abysmal .193/.326/.361 with only four home runs in 52 games.

Lamb was not in the starting lineup Wednesday against San Diego right-hander Chris Paddack.
EDGE Analysis
Manager Torey Lovullo slotted right-handed hitting Wilmer Flores into the lineup ahead of the left-handed hitting Lamb. This appears to be the manager's concession to the players' recent hitting trends. Flores has sparkled since returning from a foot injury in mid-July while Lamb has batted .176 (16-for-91) with a .619 OPS over the last 40 games. Lovullo told Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic that he'll see how expanding Flores' role plays out over the next couple of days, suggesting that Lamb will move to a permanent bench role going forward.

Lamb is not in the lineup Saturday against the Dodgers.
EDGE Analysis
Lamb will head to the bench Saturday with left-hander Clayton Kershaw toeing the rubber for the Dodgers. In his place, Eduardo Escobar is covering the hot corner while Wilmer Flores is starting at second base.

Lamb is not starting Thursday against the Dodgers.
EDGE Analysis
Lamb is hitting just .145 with a .520 OPS through 23 games this month, so he'll head to the bench for Thursday's series opener with left-hander Hyun-Jin Ryu set to start for the opposition. Eduardo Escobar is covering the hot corner in his stead, with Wilmer Flores starting at second base.
