The Orioles will recall Jake Arrieta prior to Thursday's game. Arrieta has been working out with Double-A Bowie the past two days. He'll be used in long relief for the O's but could possibly get a start late in the year.

Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that the Orioles could be willing to trade Jake Arrieta. Arrieta holds a 5.27 ERA in his career and a 6.13 ERA this season, and he's currently at Triple-A trying to figure things out. But, Rosenthal writes that teams "love his arm," so perhaps they could barter him in exchange for a moderate upgrade somewhere.

Orioles optioned RHP Jake Arrieta to Triple-A Norfolk. Arrieta was pounded for the second straight start Thursday, pushing his ERA up to 6.13. The O's could bring him back shortly after the break, but we're guessing he'll stay in the minors for a while. Joel Pineiro is an option to replace him in the rotation.

Jake Arrieta was tagged for six runs in 3 2/3 innings by the Angels on Thursday. Arrieta managed to avoid falling to 3-10, but his ERA did jump over 6.00 to 6.13. He should follow Brian Matusz back to the minors, with perhaps Joel Pineiro taking his spot in Baltimore's rotation.

Jake Arrieta limited the Nationals to one run on four hits in six innings of work Sunday, taking a no-decision in Baltimore's 2-1 victory. Arrieta struck out five and walked one in his second quality outing in three starts. Roughed up in four straight starts between May 23 and June 8, Arrieta has earned some breathing room in the Orioles rotation by allowing just six runs in 20 innings across his past three outings. He'll get the Indians at home next weekend.

Jake Arrieta pitched well for a while Monday against the Mets but hit a wall in the sixth inning, serving up an Ike Davis grand slam on the way to his ninth loss of the season. He allowed six hits and a walk while striking out four. All told, it's a nice start that was undone by one bad frame. Arrieta had lost his rotation spot last week before a Brian Matusz injury gave him another shot. With two straight solid outings under his belt, he should get another shot this weekend against the Nats.
