Jake Arrieta held the Phillies to one run in 6 2/3 innings, striking out four, in a victory Sunday. He scattered three hits and walked three. Arrieta doesn't have the control or consistency to trust in most fantasy formats at this point. In five starts with the Cubs, he's surrendered one or less runs three times and been rocked for 10 runs in nine innings over the other two outings. The right-hander has walked 34 batters in 52 1/3 innings. He improves to 3-3 with a 5.33 ERA this season, though he's 2-1 with a 3.77 ERA in five starts since joining the Cubs.

Jake Arrieta struggled in a loss against the Dodgers on Monday night, allowing four runs on six hits over five innings. Arrieta couldn't locate the plate again, walking five batters and accumulating 111 pitches until Dale Sveum was forced to summon the bullpen. The right-hander has walked 30 batters in 45 2/3 innings. He falls to 1-1 with a 4.50 ERA in four starts with the Cubs. Arrieta will tangle with the Phillies on the road Sunday.

Jake Arrieta allowed six earned runs in four innings Wednesday as the Cubs fell to the Nationals. Arrieta was brilliant in his debut for the Cubs last week against the rival Cardinals, striking out seven batters over seven scoreless innings. But he regressed to his usual mediocrity on Wednesday night vs. Washington. The righty can't be trusted in standard fantasy leagues.

Jake Arrieta shut out the Cardinals for seven innings, striking out seven, in a victory Friday. James Russell and Blake Parker finished the two-hitter. Arrieta, who was acquired from the Orioles in the Scott Feldman deal, will almost certainly spent the rest of the season in the rotation as he auditions for a job in 2014. There's no reason he can't be a No. 3 or 4 starter now that he's free of the AL East and Camden Yards.

Cubs recalled RHP Jake Arrieta from Triple-A Iowa. Arrieta will start on Friday against the Cardinals and should remain in the rotation for the rest of the season as long as he pitches well. The hard-thrower holds a 6.07 ERA and 1.58 WHIP over six big league starts this season, so fantasy owners should steer clear for now.

Cubs optioned RHP Jake Arrieta to Triple-A Iowa. Arrieta pitched great in his Cubs' debut Tuesday, holding the Brewers to one run over six innings in a no-decision. The 27-year-old returns to a 4.03 ERA and 25/10 K/BB ratio over 22 1/3 innings at Triple-A. He'll be back soon enough.

Jake Arrieta held the Brewers to one run over six innings but took a no-decision in his Cubs' debut Tuesday. Arrieta only struck out two and walked three, but he also gave up just two hits. Unfortunately, one of them was a Juan Francisco homer. Though he'll probably be sent back down, the right-hander should be a regular member of the Cubs' rotation soon enough.
