Arrieta was named the National League Cy Young Award winner by the Baseball Writers' Association of America on Wednesday, MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Clayton Kershaw and Zack Greinke both had a case, but Arrieta walks away with his first career Cy Young after finishing ninth in the NL vote in 2014. The honor is well deserved for Arrieta, who led the league in wins (22) and complete games (4), and finished second in innings pitched (229), ERA (1.77) and WHIP (0.86). Arrieta was also exceptional at keeping the ball in the yard, allowing just 10 homers thanks to a 22.8 percent flyball rate (third-lowest in NL).

Arrieta will start Game 2 of the NLCS, Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
Arrieta was unusually average against the Cardinals in Game 3 of the NLDS. Arguably the front-runner for the Cy Young award, the 29-year-old uncharacteristically gave up four runs on five hits and two walks while striking out nine batters in 5.2 innings. Still, Arrieta was able to pick up the win as the Cubs were able to hit six home runs in the contest. While it's unlikely he will get that type of run support again with either the Mets or Dodgers set to play Chicago in the NLDS, his incredible hot streak on the mound should make him a must play most nights.

Arrieta will start Game 3 of NLDS, ESPN's Jesse Rogers reports.
EDGE Analysis
After a masterful Wild Card performance, Arrieta will get a bit of time off until he has to pitch again. He will most likely face Michael Wacca in a pivotal Game 3 matchup on Monday.

Arrieta tossed a complete game shutout in the Wild Card game win over Pittsburgh on Wednesday night.
EDGE Analysis
The Cubs plated a run against Gerrit Cole in the top of the first inning, and that turned out to be all of the support that Arrieta needed Wednesday. He finished the game with 11 strikeouts and did not walk a batter, while scattering four hits in the outing and benefitting from the handful of Bucs' hard-hit balls finding the defenders behind him.

Arrieta (22-6) tossed six scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and striking out seven in Friday's win over Milwaukee.
EDGE Analysis
Arrieta piled onto his league-leading win total, now holding three more victories than any other pitcher in baseball. The Cy-Young hopeful couldn't have asked for a better close out to the season. Over the past 30 days, Arrieta leads all qualifying pitchers with five wins, a 0.39 ERA, a 0.57 WHIP, a .141 opponent batting average and a.341 opponent OPS.

Arrieta pitched six scoreless innings in his last regular-season start of the year, improving to 22-6.
EDGE Analysis
Arrieta has done everything he can to close the gap with Zack Greinke in the Cy Young race, as he has struck out 27 in his last three starts - all scoreless - and has only given up six hits and one walk in that span. It's safe to say that he'll be on the mound for the Cubs in the Wild Card game next week.

Arrieta (21-6) was marvelous Sunday, giving up just one hit through seven innings and striking out seven batters in a 4-0 victory over the Pirates.
EDGE Analysis
Lost in the brilliant performance, Arrieta also hit his second home run of the season, a second-inning solo shot off starter A.J. Burnett to kick-start the Cubs offense. He's now sporting a 0.80 ERA in the second half of the season, however it's unlikely he will make his final start against the Brewers with a potential wild-card matchup against these same Pirates just days away. The 29-year-old is arguably one of the favorites to win the Cy Young award with his blistering end to the season.

Arrieta picked up his 20th win in superb fashion Tuesday against the Brewers, allowing just three hits and one walk over nine shutout innings while striking out 11.
EDGE Analysis
Wins obviously don't always tell the whole story, but in Arrieta's case, it is fitting that he was the first pitcher to 20 wins this season. He has a 0.86 ERA in the second half, which would be a major league record if it holds. The competition is stiff in the National League, but Arrieta's recent run has put him firmly in the mix for the Cy Young award. Arrieta will start again Sunday against the Pirates, after which he will likely be lined up to start for the Cubs in the wild card game.

Arrieta pitched well again on Wednesday, as he allowed two runs (one earned) on six hits and a walk while striking out six in a no-decision against the Pirates.
EDGE Analysis
Arrieta continues his fantastic run, as he extended his quality start streak to an incredible 16 games. The right-hander can attribute his success to strikeouts and groundballs, as his 54 percent groundball percentage and 27 percent strikeout rate are some of the best in baseball. The outing lowered his ERA to a minuscule 1.96 and he, Zack Greinke, and Clayton Kershaw are all putting in strong cases for the NL Cy Young this year. He'll look to add to his resume against the Brewers next Tuesday.

Arrieta has won each of his last eight starts and has only given up more than one run in one of those starts.
EDGE Analysis
Arrieta is on fire right now. In his recent streak, which has improved his season ERA to 1.99, he has struck out 57 and given up just 29 hits, 12 walks, and three earned runs in 58.1 innings.
