Arrieta (6-0) came away with a no-decision in Sunday's extra-inning win over the Nationals, lasting just five innings and allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits and four walks while striking out seven.
EDGE Analysis
The Nats did a good job elevated his pitch count, and Arrieta needed 100 pitches (64 strikes) to get through the five frames. There are signs that his run of dominance might be coming to an end, as he has a shaky 24:14 K:BB over his last 26 innings (four starts), but Arrieta will get a chance to rebound Saturday at home in a duel against Gerrit Cole and the Pirates.

Arrieta (6-0) threw seven scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and two walks while striking out five in Tuesday's win against the Pirates.
EDGE Analysis
Two starts removed from his second career no-hitter, Arrieta kept shutting down opposing hitters. His only real trouble spot came in the first, when he issued consecutive walks to John Jaso and Andrew McCutchen. A strikeout, a fielder's choice and a harmless grounder back to the mound later, the righty had his bearings. Arrieta became the second six-game winner in the major leagues, after Chris Sale of the Chicago White Sox.

Arrieta (5-0) limited the Brewers to three hits, four walks and one run while striking out six over five innings in Thursday's win.
EDGE Analysis
It's rare to see Arrieta leave a game so soon -- he was lifted for a pinch hitter after 92 pitches, ending his streak of consecutive quality starts at 24. It's a rather curious decision with the Cubs already leading 5-1 at the time, but perhaps manager Joe Maddon just wanted to preserve his ace. Either way, this is five wins in five starts for Arrieta, who now holds an even 1.00 ERA. It's the tiniest bit concerning that he's issued four walks in consecutive starts, but considering one of those was a no-hitter, that can be overlooked.

Arrietta will not make his scheduled start Wednesday due to the postponement of Wednesday's matchup with the Brewers.
EDGE Analysis
Wednesday's evening forecast in Chicago was not promising, so it was decided to play the game at a later date. Arrieta will be pushed back just one day and take the hill Thursday against the same Brewers team he was originally scheduled to face.

Arrieta (4-0) no-hit the Reds on Thursday, striking out six and working around four walks while adding a 2-for-4 performance at the plate.
EDGE Analysis
You know that school of thought that last season's insane numbers were impossible to repeat, that Arrieta just had to experience some regression this year? It sure doesn't look like that's happening. He's again been one of the most dominant pitchers in baseball, and even though the Reds are a relatively soft opponent, he cut through their lineup like a hot knife through butter. Another bad team, the Brewers, is lined up to be Arrieta's next victim Wednesday.

Arrieta (3-0) struck out eight and surrendered five hits and a walk over eight innings in Saturday's 6-2 victory over the Rockies.
EDGE Analysis
The reigning NL Cy Young award winner was masterful at Wrigley once again, where he hasn't allowed a run his last 48.2 innings of work. Manager Joe Maddon opted to lift Arrieta after 100 pitches, or the Cubs' ace could have seemingly cruised to a complete game. Arrieta struck the first three batters he faced on swinging strikes, and retired 10 straight between the fourth and seventh inning. He's now made a club-record 23 consecutive quality starts, and is sporting an impressive 1.23 ERA over his first three starts of 2016.

Arrieta tossed a quality start Sunday versus Arizona, allowing just three runs with six strikeouts and no walks across seven innings en route to a 2-0 record.
EDGE Analysis
The Chicago ace was lights out in his season debut, and while he was victimized a couple of times in the face of a tough matchup, he delivered once again. Arrieta , who now has a 1.93 ERA and a 0.79 WHIP through 14 innings, appears set to remain an elite option after a breakout 2015 campaign.

Arrieta (1-0) won his Opening Day start against the Angels on Monday behind seven shutout innings, as he struck out six, walked one, and allowed only two hits.
EDGE Analysis
Arrieta surely would have had more in the tank if this was a midseason game, as he only needed 89 pitches to slice through the Angels lineup for seven innings. Arrieta threw just 25 balls, and both the hits Arrieta allowed were harmless singles. It was a clinical performance as the NL Cy Young winner picked up right where he left off.

Arrieta allowed one run on two hits and two walks while striking out five in Tuesday's exhibition win against Oakland.
EDGE Analysis
The 2015 Cy Young Award winner hasn't had a great spring, so Tuesday's performance is an encouraging sign heading into Opening Day. Arrieta has been one of the most dominant pitchers in the league over the past two years. He had a historic finish to 2015 -- in his last nine starts, he went 8-0 with a 0.27 ERA, 0.55 WHIP and 73:7 K:BB. The only concern headed into 2016 surrounds his health. The 30-year-old has been hampered by injuries before, and his 229 innings pitched last season were far and away the most he'd ever thrown. Assuming the right-hander can go 200-plus innings again, Arrieta is a safe bet to remain among league's elite pitchers.

Arrieta has been named the Cubs opening day starter, Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
Arrieta had been scheduled for a regular bullpen session Sunday, and with this announcement, it appears everything went as planned despite dealing with a thumb blister of late. He'll make his final start of spring training Tuesday, and then take the hill on opening night on regular rest.
