Arrieta (4-1) gave up three runs on six hits and a walk while striking out seven over six innings against the Phillies on Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
The Phillies got to him twice in a first-inning rally, and Arrieta was nearly untouchable thereafter. While his season stats (particularly that 4.63 ERA) remain rather unappealing for a guy who was drafted as a staff ace, Arrieta is carrying a number of stats -- a .333 BABIP, a 17.6 percent HR/FB and a 3.16 xFIP -- that argue persuasively for us to write his mediocre ratios off to bad luck. Buy low if you can -- his K/9 (10.54) and BB/9 (2.31) are both marked improvements upon last season, more in line with what Arrieta offered in 2014 and 2015.

Arrieta (3-1) allowed five runs on 10 hits and three walks while striking out five over 4.1 innings in Friday's 5-4 loss to the Red Sox.
EDGE Analysis
All five runs scored in the first inning, but Arrieta's command within the strike zone was shaky all night and it took a couple of nifty double plays behind him in the fourth and fifth to escape further damage. The 31-year-old has now given up at least three runs in four straight starts, saddling him with a 4.66 ERA, but his 34:8 K:BB through 29 innings suggests better days are ahead. Arrieta's next start will come Wednesday at home against the Phillies.

Arrieta (3-0) allowed five runs, four of which were earned, on eight hits while striking out eight across six innings to earn the win Saturday against the Reds.
EDGE Analysis
Despite giving up a pair of first-inning homers, Arrieta settled down nicely while the Cubs bats came out in a big way to help him pick up his third victory of the season. Although he's given up at least three runs in each of his last three outings, he has a solid 3.65 ERA to go with 29 strikeouts on the season, and he'll continue to be a high-end fantasy starter. He'll make his next start Friday against the Red Sox.

Arrieta will have his next start pushed back to Saturday against the Reds, Carrie Muskat of MLB.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
The switch seems to be a strategic attempt to avoid having Jon Lester start against the Red Sox next week, but also allows Arrieta to avoid facing the Pirates. The right-hander allowed three earned runs over 5.2 innings in his last start against Pittsburgh, whereas Lester held the same lineup silent. Nonetheless, Arrieta is off to another solid start on the season and remains one of the most dominant aces in the league.

Arrieta (2-0) allowed three runs on five hits and one walk while striking out five over 5.2 innings, but received no decision Saturday against the Pirates.
EDGE Analysis
Arrieta left the contest with a 6-3 lead before the Cubs bullpen imploded in the seventh inning, keeping him from securing his third win of the season. Although he's allowed six earned runs over 12.2 innings across his last two starts, he's supplying fantasy owners with the solid ratios they were expecting when selecting him on draft day. He'll make his next start Friday against the Reds.

Arrieta (2-0) picked up the win in Sunday's game against the Brewers, striking out 10 while allowing three earned runs over seven innings.
EDGE Analysis
Arrieta was excellent for much of his start on Sunday, racking up double-digit strikeouts and holding Brewers hitters to just three hits. One of his few mistakes came on a three-run home run by Ryan Braun when he appeared to hang a breaking ball over the heart of the plate. While Arrieta has looked impressive so far, one thing to keep an eye on going forward is his velocity, which has appeared to be down a tick from years past so far.

Arrieta is slated to start Sunday against the Brewers, Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Cubs are retooling their rotation following their Wednesday rainout. Arrieta moves up a day and hopes to continue the momentum of his dominant six-inning season debut Tuesday. Jon Lester will now face the Dodgers on Monday.

Arrieta (1-0) allowed one unearned run on four hits and two walks across six innings during Tuesday's 2-1 win over the Cardinals. He struck out six.
EDGE Analysis
The only run Arrieta allowed came on an error following an infield single in the fifth inning and he otherwise allowed just two men to reach second base. He was removed after 90 pitches as he continues to build up his stamina, but he was still able to deliver an excellent outing for both his club and his fantasy owners. Arrieta is off to a strong start to the campaign after a stellar 2016 season and will look to keep it going Monday against the Dodgers.

Arrieta did not allow a hit over three innings in Sunday's spring training loss to the Cubs. He gave up an earned run, struck out five and walked three.
EDGE Analysis
Outside of the walks, Arrieta was very effective in this one. It was also an improvement over his first spring training start, when he pitched two innings, giving up five hits and two earned runs. Arrieta looks to be dialing things in as the regular season approaches.

Arrieta pitched two innings in Monday's spring training win over the Angels, giving up five hits and two earned runs. He struck out one.
EDGE Analysis
It wasn't the cleanest outing, but there's no reason to worry about Arrieta. The 31-year-old has established himself as one of the best pitchers in the game, and as he enters a contract season, Arrieta figures to have plenty of motivation on the mound in 2017.
