Arrieta (10-8) allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits and two walks during Wednesday's loss to the Diamondbacks. He struck out eight.
EDGE Analysis
Despite turning in another solid outing, Arrieta was saddled with the loss as the Cubs were blanked by Zack Godley and the Diamondbacks' bullpen. The 31-year-old is hitting his stride for the fantasy homestretch, and he now owns a shiny 2.08 ERA and 31:11 K:BB in six starts (39 innings) since the beginning of July. He'll look to keep things rolling in a favorable matchup against the Giants on Monday.

Arrieta (10-7) allowed two runs on two hits and two walks while striking out five batters through 6.2 innings during Wednesday's win over the White Sox.
EDGE Analysis
Arrieta entered with a rock-solid 3.30 ERA through his previous 10 starts, and he allowed two runs or fewer in seven of those outings. Now sporting a 4.03 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 8.7 K/9 for the campaign, the righty appears to have righted the ship ahead of the fantasy stretch drive. He projects to face the Diamondbacks at Wrigley Field in his next start.

Arrieta (9-7) allowed two runs on five hits while striking out six across six innings, but received no decision Friday against the Cardinals.
EDGE Analysis
Arrieta showed some of his best control of the season and left the game with a 3-2 lead, but the bullpen imploded in the eighth inning, keeping him from a having a shot to earn his 10th victory of the campaign. Although he's been an inconsistent player this season, he's lowered his ERA by more than half a run since June 17, and he certainly has the potential to reward fantasy owners with a strong second half. He'll make his next start Wednesday against the White Sox.

Arrieta (9-7) allowed two runs, one of which was earned, on four hits and three walks while striking out three over 6.2 innings to earn the victory on Saturday against the Orioles.
EDGE Analysis
Arrieta had a seven-run lead before giving up a run in the fifth inning, as he easily coasted to his ninth victory of the campaign. He's held opponents to one or fewer earned runs in three of his last five starts, but he's also been quite inconsistent, and fantasy owners will need to take the good along with the bad that comes with his 4.17 ERA. He'll make his next start Friday against the Cardinals.

Arrieta (8-7) was charged with four runs (three earned) on six hits and two walks over 5.2 innings in a loss to the Pirates on Saturday. He struck out three.
EDGE Analysis
This was a decent, if unremarkable, performance from Arrieta, who threw a seven-inning, one-hit gem his last time out. He was inconsistent throughout much of the first half, and his declining groundball rate and elevated HR/9 suggest we may see more of the same after the All-Star break.

Arrieta (8-6) tossed seven scoreless innings in Sunday's win over the Reds, allowing one hit and two walks with six strikeouts.
EDGE Analysis
Arrieta allowed a hit and a walk in the first inning, but he settled down thereafter and allowed just one man to reach over the next six frames. This stellar outing also came at a great time for the right-hander, who was coming off a terrible start against the Nationals on Tuesday in which he walked six while giving up five earned runs. Arrieta's recent inconsistency has his season ERA at 4.33, but he's shown signs of his 2016 form of late and will next enjoy a favorable matchup Saturday against the Pirates.

Arrieta (7-6) allowed six runs (five earned) on six hits and six walks across four innings in Tuesday's loss to the Nationals. He struck out four.
EDGE Analysis
Arrieta struggled to gain a grasp of the strike zone in this one, throwing just 54 percent of his pitches for strikes while issuing six walks for just the fourth time in his big league career. He also failed to control the Nats' baserunners in any fashion, yielding six stolen bases to help the opposing offense manufacture runs. This poor performance also continued a disturbing recent trend of short outings for Arrieta, who has failed to complete five innings in three of his last four starts. He owns an ugly 17:11 K:BB over 20 innings during that span and will look to right the ship Sunday against the Reds.

Arrieta (7-5) gave up one run on six hits while striking out three over seven innings in a win over the Marlins on Thursday. He did not issue a walk.
EDGE Analysis
After failing to complete five in back-to-back starts, Arrieta tied a season high with seven innings Thursday, and he did so on just 82 pitches. A second-inning homer off the bat of Marcell Ozuna was all the Marlins could muster against Arrieta. It was a strong performance, but Arrieta has now recorded five strikeouts or fewer in three of his last four starts, and his upcoming two-step includes a daunting road matchup at Washington.

Arrieta gave up three runs (two earned) on four hits and two walks while striking out seven in 4.2 innings against the Pirates on Saturday.
EDGE Analysis
His miserable season continues, as he failed to get out of the fifth inning for the second start in a row. All the advanced metrics and projection systems point to better days ahead for Arrieta. His 3.82 xFIP and 79:23 K:BB in 73 innings are particularly encouraging indicators. His next start will be Thursday in Miami.

Arrieta has a cut on his right thumb, Patrick Mooney of CSN Chicago reports. "It just comes from throwing -- it's not like he's been cut by a knife or anything," manager Joe Maddon said Monday. "It's just one of those skin issues where your finger actually splits a little bit, so we backed off on his throwing in between starts last time. We'll probably do the same thing this time."
EDGE Analysis
It doesn't sound like the Cubs expect this issue to cost Arrieta time, but they are being proactive, limiting his workload on the side. Arrieta labored through 4.1 innings in Sunday's start against Colorado -- the third time this season he's failed to complete five innings -- with his ERA increasing to 4.68 following the short outing. Much has been made of Arrieta's decreased velocity over the past couple seasons, and his groundball rate is down significantly from a year ago, but his strikeout and walk rates provide some reason for optimism.
