Gio Gonzalez pitched a couple of scoreless innings in his spring debut Wednesday in the Nationals' 11-5 defeat of a Mets split-squad. The Nationals are taking it easier on their rotation mainstays this year than they have in past springs. Last year, Gonzalez made his spring debut on Feb. 25 before going to pitch for Team USA in the WBC. This year, he'll probably pitch 10 or so fewer innings this spring.

Gio Gonzalez will no longer start Sunday's season finale for the Nationals. It was reported before Saturday's game that Gio would get the ball in the finale, but after Saturday's win Nationals manager Davey Johnson decided to go with his original starter, Tanner Roark. Gonzalez' season is over, and he finishes with an 11-8 record and 3.36 ERA.

Gio Gonzalez will make the start in the Nationals' season finale on Sunday. Gio thought his start on Tuesday would be his last, but Nationals manager Davey Johnson wants a win to finish his career. Gonzalez will look to improve on his 11-8 record and 3.36 ERA. Tanner Roark was bumped from the start.

Gio Gonzalez allowed just two runs in seven innings but the Nationals lost to the Cardinals on Tuesday. Gonzalez pitched pretty well, fanning six and issuing no walks, but the left-hander was thoroughly out-dueled by Cardinals rookie right-hander Michael Wacha, who came one out away from a no-hitter. Gonzalez will finish the 2013 season having posted an 11-8 record, 3.36 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 192/76 K/BB ratio in 195 2/3 innings. He should be a top-tier fantasy pitcher again in 2014.

Gio Gonzalez struggled in a losing effort against the Phillies on Saturday, allowing four runs on nine hits over six innings. Gonzalez did manage to rack up five strikeouts while walking two on the night, but wasn't good enough to defeat Cole Hamels in this one. All of the damage against him came in the sixth inning, where John Mayberry socked a solo home run and Carlos Ruiz added a three-run double. Gonzalez has delivered another solid season for the Nationals, posting a 10-7 record, 3.35 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 183/74 K/BB ratio over 1822/3 innings. He'll look to get back in the win column when he takes on the Marlins at home on Friday.

Gio Gonzalez went the distance Monday, allowing just a single to Zach Lutz, in the Nationals' 9-0 win over the Mets. Lutz came off the bench to break up the no-hitter in the seventh inning. He later drew one of the two walks issued by Gonzalez on the night. Gonzalez was outstanding, though, even if it was against a makeshift lineup. He threw 110 pitches, 79 of them for strikes. He's won three straight to improve to 10-6 with a 3.31 ERA.

Gio Gonzalez yielded five runs -- with just one of them being earned -- over 5 2/3 innings in Tuesday's 9-6 victory over the Phillies. It wasn't pretty, as Gonzalez gave up five hits and walked three while needing 118 pitches to cover the 5 2/3 frames. He struck out six, though, and, luckily for his fantasy owners, was only charged with one earned run due to some shaky defense. The win was Gio's ninth, and it's come with a 3.49 ERA. He'll take on the Mets on the road the next time out.

Gio Gonzalez shut out the Marlins for seven innings in the Nationals' 9-0 victory Thursday. Tanner Roark finished up from there. Gonzalez allowed three hits, walked three and struck out eight in winning for the first time since July 10. He's 3-2 with a 1.54 ERA in five career starts against the Marlins.

Gio Gonzalez was knocked around for seven runs (six earned) over 3 1/3 innings Friday in a no-decision against the Royals. Gonzalez would have been on the losing side on any other night, but the Nationals came charging back against Bruce Chen and the Royals' bullpen. The southpaw allowed nine hits (including two home runs) while walking three. Gonzalez is winless since July 10 while his 3.66 ERA is his highest since the end of May. He'll attempt to turn the page next week in a promising matchup against the Marlins.

Gio Gonzalez yielded two runs on five hits over seven innings in a loss to the Braves on Sunday. Gonzalez suffered from back tightness throughout his four-inning start in Tuesday's rain-delayed victory over the Giants, but he looked fine this afternoon. He whiffed nine batters but also walked four, which is how Gonzalez rolled up 120 pitches. Atlanta had trouble with the left-hander's stuff, managing only two fly-ball outs and one extra-base hit (Freddie Freeman's double), but held on for a 2-1 victory. Gonzalez drops to 7-6 with a 3.38 ERA.
