Gonzalez will follow Max Scherzer in the Nationals' rotation to begin the season, pitching the Nationals' second game, The Washington Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
Stephen Strasburg will take the third turn, while Tanner Roark and Joe Ross will round out the rotation. Nats manager Dusty Baker says that Gonzalez's inability to go deep into games on a consistent basis led him to the decision, so that the bullpen will usually be fresher for Gonzalez after a Scherzer start. From a fantasy perspective this doesn't change Gonzalez's outlook much, although stronger bullpen support could save him a couple of earned runs and maybe get him an extra win or two over the course of the year.

On the advice of new Nationals pitching coach Mike Maddux, Gonzalez is altering his windup slightly to keep focus on his target, The Washington Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
Gonzalez typically glances down as he begins his leg kick, but Maddux suggested he keep his eyes on the prize instead of looking away from the plate and having to pick the catcher's mitt back up. The results in Friday's Grapefruit League start were good (two scoreless innings, 17 of 27 pitches thrown for strikes) and given his career 3.85 BB/9 rate, any improvement in his control could pay big dividends for Gonzalez. Don't bump him up on your cheat sheets just yet, though.

Gonzalez tossed six shutout innings in Game 1 of Saturday's double-header, giving up three hits and three walks while striking out seven, but came away with a no-decision.
EDGE Analysis
He finished the season strong, posting a 2.38 ERA over his final six starts in September and October. Changes are coming to the roster in the offseason, but Gonzalez should again help solidify the middle of the Nats rotation in 2016.

Gonzalez allowed just two earned runs in five innings against the Phillies on Sunday, striking out three and walking two in a no decision.
EDGE Analysis
The 30-year-old has allowed more than three runs just once in his last six starts, but he has failed to make it out of the sixth inning in all but one outing during that span. Gonzalez's season ERA of 3.93 will have to be considered a disappointment, and he will make his final start of 2015 Friday against the Mets.

Gonzalez (11-8) surrendered six hits, four earned runs and two walks over 4.2 innings in a 4-1 loss to the Orioles on Tuesday. He struck out six.
EDGE Analysis
Gonzalez had been in superb form in September coming into Tuesday's contest, with double-digit strikeouts in two of his previous three starts, along with a sparkling 1.49 ERA. As customary, Gonzalez was stingy with the long ball on Tuesday, and did manage to secure first-pitch strikes on 15 of the 23 hitters he faced. However, he was done in by the timely hitting of several members of the Orioles lineup and failed to reach the fifth inning in a start for the fifth time in 2015. Gonzalez is scheduled for one more trip to the mound before the conclusion of the season.

Gonzalez will start Tuesday's game after his scheduled start Monday was rained out, Mark Zuckerman of CSN Washington reports.
EDGE Analysis
He'll thus take the mound with an extra day of rest, looking to continue what's been a strong September run. The Nats may choose to reshuffle their rotation after he goes.

Gonzalez picked up his 11th win of the season Wednesday, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks over seven innings while striking out a season-high 12.
EDGE Analysis
He's finishing up the regular season on a heater, as Gonzalez now has a 1.47 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and a 26:9 K:BB ratio over three September starts (18.1 innings).

Gonzalez allowed just one run on four hits, walking three and striking out four over 5.1 innings, but came away with a no-decision against the Marlins on Friday night.
EDGE Analysis
Gonzalez kept the Nationals in the game, but he didn't last long enough to put them in position to win. That has been Gio's pitching template this season - keeping the damage to a minimum, but elevated pitch counts leading to early exits. He sports a still respectable 3.88 ERA, but he needs to get deeper into games to increase his fantasy value, and that is something he has continually struggled to do.
