Gonzalez allowed two runs (both unearned) on six hits, walking two and striking out seven over five-plus innings, but was left with a no-decision against the Marlins on Friday night.
EDGE Analysis
Gonzalez (2-1) still maintains an attractive 1.93 ERA, but he needed whopping 106 pitches (65 for strikes) and did not record an out in the sixth inning before departing. He can be very effective at times, but throughout his career he has run into stretches where his failure to efficiently command the strike zone leads to high pitch counts, early exits, and lost opportunities to log wins. He'll try to get things back in line when he faces the Mets on the road in his next starting assignment.

Gonzalez did not factor into the decision in Saturday's 8-5 loss to the Cubs, surrendering seven hits, five earned runs and a walk over 5.2 innings. He struck out two.
EDGE Analysis
While he was efficient enough in throwing 68 of his 100 pitches for strikes, Gonzalez fell victim to some timely hitting by the Cubs, including a solo homer by Kris Bryant. Although he was spared his first loss of the season, the outing was undeniably the 30-year-old's poorest in what has been an otherwise stellar campaign to date. The eight-year veteran is still sporting a solid 2.19 ERA, although he did see that figure climb by more than a run as a result of Saturday's start. He'll try to atone for the outing when he faces his hometown Marlins in Washington next Friday.

Gonzalez (2-1) struck out one, walked two and allowed just four hits over six shutout innings in Monday's win over the Royals.
EDGE Analysis
Gonzalez can do no wrong thus far in 2016, as his ERA dropped to 1.15 through five starts. He drew just six swinging strikes against the notoriously contact-heavy Royals, but they weren't able to do anything with the contact they made. Kansas City managed just one line drive against Gonzalez and couldn't get any of their 10 fly balls to leave the yard -- two of them didn't even leave the infield. Even if Gonzalez's .233 BABIP is bound to come up, his peripherals are sharp, including a 26:9 K:BB ratio and just one home run allowed in 31.1 innings.

Gonzalez (1-1) pitched well Wednesday, allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits while striking out five and walking three over 6.1 innings during a 3-0 loss to Philadelphia.
EDGE Analysis
Run support continues to be an issue for Gonzalez. Washington has scored fewer than three runs in three of his four outing this season. He owns a 1.42 ERA and 0.99 WHIP with 25 strikeouts in 25.1 innings, but he only has one win to show for it. Gonzalez is scheduled to make his next start Monday versus Kansas City.

Gonzalez was sharp again, allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits, he walked one and struck out eight over six innings of an 8-4 win over Minnesota on Friday night.
EDGE Analysis
Gonzalez (1-0) has pitched very well so far this season with a 1.42 ERA and 20 strikeouts in 19 innings. Unfortunately, before this outing, he hasn't received much run support. He'll try to keep it rolling against the Phillies at home in his next start.

Gonzalez allowed one run on four hits and two walks while striking out eight over seven innings, but received no decision Sunday at the Phillies.
EDGE Analysis
The only mistake Gonzalez made was giving up a solo shot in the second inning to Carlos Ruiz, but the Nationals' offense struggled to give him much run support. He's been outstanding in his two starts, as he's only allowed one earned run along with 12 strikeouts over 13 innings of work. He'll make his next start Friday against the Twins.

Gonzalez took a no-decision despite throwing six shutout innings Tuesday against Atlanta. He struck out four, walked one, and allowed just three hits.
EDGE Analysis
Gonzalez was extremely sharp, as he threw 18 first-pitch strikes to 23 hitters and tossed 61 strikes in 95 pitches. This was his first start due to a shuffling of the Nationals rotation in the season's first week, but there didn't appear to be any rust for Gonzalez. He struggled with walks last season, as he issued 3.5 walks per nine innings, so it's a great sign to see Gonzalez pounding the zone out of the gate in 2016.

Gonzalez will be available out of the bullpen in the Nationals' first series against the Braves, MLB.com's Jamal Collier reports.
EDGE Analysis
He won't make his first start of the season until next Monday against the Braves, so he could pitch in relief Monday or Wednesday if needed. The only nice thing about Gonzalez getting pushed back to next week is that he will get two starts that week, with the second one coming against the Phillies. Tanner Roark will start Thursday, and Joe Ross will start Saturday, with Max Scherzer taking the ball on Sunday.

Gonzalez will not start until next week Monday, Chelsea James of the Washington Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
Gonzalez was projected to be the No. 3 starter in the Nationals rotation, but manager Dusty Baker has opted to start Tanner Roark in the team's home opener on Friday. This move will allow Max Scherzer to pitch on only one day of extra rest. The move doesn't change a whole lot, although it does move him from pitching against the Marlins to the Braves at Nationals Park, which is still a good matchup for the left-hander.

Gonzalez looked sharp in Sunday's split-squad game against the Braves, allowing two runs on seven hits over six innings, striking out four without walking a batter.
EDGE Analysis
The lack of walks is a great sign that Gonzalez is getting a better handle on the mechanical tweaks suggested to him by new pitching coach Mike Maddux at the beginning of camp, as Gonzalez has walked 12 batters in 13 spring innings prior to Sunday. If he can improve on his command and control, he should be able to top his somewhat disappointing 2015 numbers.
