Gonzalez passed the 180-inning mark for the season Tuesday, causing his $12 million club option for 2018 to automatically vest, Chelsea Janes of The Washington Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
That could be a terrific bargain for the Nats if the 31-year-old lefty is able to come anywhere close to the 2.68 ERA and 1.15 WHIP he's posted so far this season. There are signs that Gonzalez will likely take a step backwards in 2018 -- from his 3.92 FIP to an average fastball velocity that has dipped below 90 mph for the first time since he became a regular big-league starter in 2010 -- but even if his performance returns to something closer to his career numbers, he'll be an important cog in a rotation anchored by aces Max Scherzer and Stephen Strasburg.

Gonzalez (14-7) allowed rive runs on seven hits and one walk across five innings while taking the loss Tuesday against the Braves. He struck out eight.
EDGE Analysis
Gonzalez threw 67 percent of his pitches for strikes, but he missed over the plate with frequency and couldn't put hitters away. The biggest hit came in the form of a three-run home run by Freddie Freeman, but his teammates didn't score a single run on the day and sunk him to his seventh loss. Gonzalez has pitched wonderfully for the majority of the season, but he has been roughed up for five earned runs in two of his last three starts. He is next scheduled to take the mound Sunday against the Dodgers.

Gonzalez (14-6) pitched five scoreless innings against Miami on Wednesday, striking out four while allowing three hits and three walks in a winning effort.
EDGE Analysis
It took the veteran lefty 101 pitches (just 55 strikes) to finish those five frames, but such inefficiency has been the exception rather than the rule for him. After all, Gonzalez had finished at least six innings in seven consecutive starts and 16 of his last 17 coming into Wednesday's action. Rumors of his demise were greatly exaggerated after he scuffled through 2016 with a 4.57 ERA, as Gonzalez has been one of the best pitchers in the National League this year. He lines up to make his next start Tuesday against Atlanta.

Gonzalez (13-6) took the loss against the Brewers on Thursday, giving up five runs on eight hits and three walks over six innings while striking out seven.
EDGE Analysis
The outing snapped a streak of six straight quality starts for the left-hander, and the five runs were the most Gonzalez has given up since early May. He still wrapped up August with a strong 2.23 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 27:8 K:BB in 32.1 innings, and will kick off September with a road start in Miami on Tuesday.

Gonzalez (13-5) allowed two runs on six hits and one walk while striking out two batters to earn the win Saturday against the Mets.
EDGE Analysis
Gonzalez turned in another solid effort, and he's now registered six straight quality starts - including five straight victories - while compiling a 1.52 ERA and 33:10 K:BB over that span (41.1 innings). He now sports an impressive 2.40 ERA and 1.11 WHIP to go along with his 13 wins and 152 strikeouts through 26 starts (168.2 innings) this season. Gonzalez will look to keep things rolling as he goes for his sixth straight win against the Brewers on Thursday.

Gonzalez (12-5) allowed one run (unearned) on five hits across 6.2 innings of a 4-1 win Sunday over the Padres.
EDGE Analysis
Gonzalez was on point in this one, racking up eight strikeouts en route to his 12th win of the season. He's now earned the victory in four straight starts and continues to rack up an above-average amount of K's (150) in his 10th major-league season. Gonzalez's stingy 2.39 ERA and 1.12 WHIP aren't too shabby, either.

Gonzalez (11-6) tossed six scoreless innings en route to a victory Tuesday against the Angels, allowing two hits with three walks and four strikeouts.
EDGE Analysis
Gonzalez was dominant in this one, allowing a pair of singles while inducing nine groundball outs. He threw just 54 percent of his 91 pitches for strikes as he issued three free passes, but his ability to finish off hitters got him through six frames in reasonably economical fashion. Gonzalez has been excellent of late, allowing just three earned runs over 28 innings in his last four starts to lower his ERA to a stellar 2.49. He has delivered quality starts in nine of his last 10 tries and will look to continue his excellent season in a favorable matchup against the Padres on Sunday.

Gonzalez (10-5) allowed only one run on seven hits over seven innings while striking out six in Wednesday's 10-1 rout of the Marlins.
EDGE Analysis
The lefty returned from the paternity list in style, shutting down the Marlins for the second consecutive outing while delivering his 12th quality start in his last 13 trips to the mound. Gonzalez's 2.59 ERA on the season would be a career best if he can avoid a late-season fade, but his 4.11 FIP suggests his luck could run out sooner or later. His next start will come Tuesday at home against the Angels.

Gonzalez (personal) was activated from the paternity list on Monday, Dan Kolko of MASN Sports reports.
EDGE Analysis
Gonzalez is back with the Nationals after witnessing the birth of his second child, while Erick Fedde was sent back to Triple-A in a corresponding move. The 31-year-old, who owns a 2.66 ERA through 22 starts (142.1 innings this season), is scheduled to take his next turn in the rotation against the Marlins on Wednesday.

Gonzalez (personal) will be activated from the paternity list this week and make his next start Wednesday against the Marlins, Mark Zuckerman of MASNsports.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Gonzalez is expected to rejoin the Nationals in Washington on Tuesday after three days away from the team to be with his family following the birth of his second child. Due to Gonzalez's absence over the weekend, Erick Fedde was called up from Triple-A Syracuse to make a spot start Sunday against the Cubs, but Fedde will likely head back to the minors now that Gonzalez and Max Scherzer (neck) are in line to make their next turns in the rotation.
