Freddy Sanchez has received another epidural injection in his lower back. Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Sanchez is "not doing anything. It's obviously a setback." The manager added that the team is "not giving up," but it's totally up in the air as to when Sanchez will return, and he's not a good bet to stay healthy when he finally does.

Freddy Sanchez has reported improvement since receiving an epidural injection in his lower back, but he's yet to be cleared to resume baseball-related activities. It's pointless to attach a timetable to Sanchez at this point. He's still not able to make pain-free throws from second base due to his surgically-repaired shoulder, and his back might be an even bigger issue at this point. The Giants are seeking middle infield help from outside the organization.

Freddy Sanchez saw a back specialist Tuesday and was given an epidural injection. Sanchez recently underwent an MRI on his lower back after it locked up on him while he was rehabbing from shoulder surgery. The 34-year-old hasn't played in a major league game since last June 4 and there's no telling when he'll make it back at this point.

Freddy Sanchez (shoulder) played seven innings at third base in an extended spring training game Wednesday. Giants manager Bruce Bochy said it's easier on Sanchez's surgically-repaired shoulder to throw from third base as opposed to second, so the team will evaluate his ability to play there going forward. We doubt this means that they've given up on him playing second, but at this point they're just trying to get him back as soon as possible. He could potentially see some starts at the hot corner if he beats Pablo Sandoval (hand) back from the DL.

Giants manager Bruce Bochy said its ''50-50'' whether Freddy Sanchez (shoulder) would return in May. Sanchez experienced a setback last week due to renewed soreness in his surgically-repaired shoulder and resumed his throwing program Tuesday for the first time since being removed from his rehab assignment. As of now, he has no timetable. Sanchez will have to make some notable progress soon if he wants to make it back before the All-Star break.

Freddy Sanchez threw Tuesday for the first time since being removed from his rehab assignment due to renewed soreness in his surgically-repaired shoulder. It's good news, though Sanchez admitted that he's not sure if he'll be able to rejoin High-A San Jose during their current six-game homestand. The Giants were originally hoping to have Sanchez back on May 11, but he won't be ready then.

Freddy Sanchez (shoulder) has been taken off of his rehab assignment due to soreness in his surgically-repaired shoulder. Sanchez had been targeting a May 11 return to the Giants, but that timetable will obviously be pushed back now. He underwent an MRI on Friday, and can't resume his rehab assignment for a minimum of five days.

Freddy Sanchez felt renewed discomfort in his surgically-repaired shoulder Wednesday while taking infield. "He developed a little tightness in the shoulder," Giants manager Bruce Bochy told CSNBayArea.com. "It's a setback. We're hoping it's a minor one." The 34-year-old second baseman was aiming to finish his rehab assignment and return to the major leagues on May 11, but everything may have to be pushed back a week.

Freddy Sanchez (shoulder) is expected to join the Giants' starting lineup after an 18-day rehab assignment. Sanchez will begin that minor league rehab assignment on Monday night at High-A San Jose and should be done with it by May 11. The 34-year-old second baseman has been on the disabled list since the start of the season due to soreness in his surgically-repaired right shoulder.

Freddy Sanchez (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment with High-A San Jose Monday. He won't play the field yet but hopes to do so by the middle of the week. Sanchez had been slated to start his rehab last week, but it was pushed back because he still had some soreness in his surgically-repaired right shoulder. The Giants are hoping he'll be ready to join them in early May, but it's still uncertain as to whether Sanchez will be able to throw well enough to handle second base defensively.
