Freddy Sanchez will undergo season-ending surgery Tuesday to repair the labrum in his right shoulder. As expected. Sanchez has spent the better part of the past two months attempting to rehab the injury, but he can now be ruled out until 2012. Jeff Keppinger, who was acquired from the Astros last month, will continue to see the majority of the playing time at second base.

Giants GM Brian Sabean acknowledged Sunday that Freddy Sanchez is likely to undergo shoulder surgery. Sanchez is still hoping that rest and rehab will do the trick, but Sabean expressed doubt in a chat with reporters after Sunday's game. "He's behind the 8 ball with each passing day," said the general manager. "For me, personally, it doesn't look good." The 33-year-old would miss the rest of the 2011 season if he indeed goes under the knife.

Freddy Sanchez (shoulder) has been swinging and throwing from 90 feet. How he responds to the throwing will determine when/if he'll return this season. Sanchez said earlier this month that he was "very optimistic about where he's at" in his recovery from a dislocated shoulder, so there's probably a better than 50/50 shot we'll see him back at some point, but it's far from a given.

Giants transferred INF Freddy Sanchez from the 15-day to the 60-day disabled list. He was cleared to make room for the newly-acquired Jeff Keppinger on the active roster. Sanchez is currently sidelined with a dislocated shoulder and may eventually opt for surgery.

Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Freddy Sanchez is "very optimistic about where he's at" in his recovery from a dislocated shoulder. Sanchez has begun swinging a fungo at the Giants' spring training complex in Arizona. We're expected to know shortly after the All-Star break whether or not Sanchez will be able to avoid surgery and come back in the second half. It sounds like, at least for the time being, that there's a good chance an operation can be delayed until after the season.

Freddy Sanchez (shoulder) will begin upper-body work this week at the Giants' spring training facility. Head trainer Dave Groeschner said we should know within 2-3 weeks if Sanchez will be able to avoid season-ending surgery on his shoulder. The second baseman is hoping to postpone an operation until after the season.
