Evan Gattis will be placed on the disabled list with a bulging thoracic disc in his back. He'll be given an epidural injection in his back on Tuesday in hopes that it will help speed along the healing process. The Braves will have a better idea as to how long Gattis will be sidelined once they see how he reacts to the shot. Christian Bethancourt will stick around while Gattis is out.

X-rays on Evan Gattis' back came back negative Saturday. The Braves are hopeful that that the injury will be short-term. But, Gattis will have an MRI when the team gets to Atlanta, just to be sure everything is fine. Christian Bethancourt was called up on Saturday afternoon to provide needed depth at catcher.

Evan Gattis was removed from Sunday's game in the first inning due to muscle spasms in his upper back. He appeared to tweak something during his at-bat in the first inning and was replaced by Gerald Laird behind the plate when they took the field. He should be considered day-to-day.

Evan Gattis delivered a go-ahead RBI single in a 6-4 win over the Nationals in 13 innings on Friday night. Gattis extended his hitting streak to 19 games with a single in the fifth inning and he played hero in the 13th by knocking in B.J. Upton with the go-ahead run on a single off Jerry Blevins. The 27-year-old is now batting .298/.347/.576 with 16 home runs and 39 RBI over 57 games this season. Only Nolan Arenado (27 games) has had a longer hitting streak in MLB this year.

Evan Gattis extended his hitting streak to 17 games with a two-run homer in Wednesday's loss to the Phillies. It was Gattis' only hit in five trips to the plate, but he'll take it. "El Oso Blanco" is sporting a surprising .294/.346/.588 batting line this season to go along with his 16 homers and 38 RBI. Ryan Doumit also homered for the Braves Wednesday, but they were out-slugged by the Phillies 10-5.

Evan Gattis is not in Tuesday's lineup against the Phillies. He's presumably getting a routine day off. Interestingly, Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez has moved the hot-hitting Tommy La Stella up to the No. 5 spot with Gattis on the bench.

According to beat writer David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the Braves are not yet considering moving catcher Evan Gattis to left field. This conflicts a report from MLB.com's Mark Bowman, who wrote Monday morning that Christian Bethancourt could be called up to take over as Atlanta's starting catcher. That move -- which O'Brien acknowledges might happen at some point this summer -- would push B.J. Upton to the bench, Jason Heyward to center field, and Justin Upton to right. Gattis is a bad defensive outfielder, but benching Upton would likely boost Atlanta's offensive potential.

He's been a force at the plate this season, slashing .284/.335/.574 with 14 bombs and 34 RBI.

Evan Gattis broke a tie with a two-run home run in the ninth inning of Sunday's win over the Marlins. It was Gattis' only hit on the day, but he certainly made it count. The longball was only the fourth Steve Cishek has ever allowed in 461 plate appearances versus right-handed batters. The bomb was also to center field at Marlins Park, which is no small task. Gattis has 11 dingers for the season.

Evan Gattis (wrist) is back in the Braves' starting lineup Wednesday night against the Red Sox. Gattis was a late scratch on Tuesday with soreness in his right wrist, but he felt fine during batting practice on Wednesday and will give it a go. Gattis is starting at catcher and batting fifth at Fenway Park.
