Gattis (strep throat) is not expected to play Sunday against the Rangers, Jon Morosi of FOX Sports reports. Gattis was said to be doing better Saturday morning, but a return for Sunday's finale is unlikely according to Morosi, who went on to say Gattis may not play until Tuesday or Wednesday. Christian Bethancourt is making his fourth straight start behind the plate Saturday, so Gerald Laird figures to get the nod Sunday.

Gattis (illness) was doing better Saturday morning, according to David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Although not in the lineup for Saturday, Gattis appears to stand a fairly good chance of returning for Sunday's series finale in light of his progress. For what it's worth, O'Brien said he wouldn't be surprised if Gattis came off the bench Saturday, after missing the previous four games with strep throat.

Gattis (illness) remains out of the lineup Saturday against the Rangers. A bout of strep throat has already cost Gattis four starts, and he'll sit again Saturday as Christian Bethancourt mans the backstop for Atlanta. Manager Fredi Gonzalez said Friday that he was hopeful to have Gattis back at some point this weekend, but a return for Sunday's series finale is by no means guaranteed.

Gattis has been out of the lineup since Monday with strep throat, but manager Fredi Gonzalez hopes to have him back at some point this weekend. Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said he is hopeful Gattis (illness) can play in this weekend's series against the Rangers, David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. While Gattis was said to be doing a little better Tuesday, he will stay back at the hotel again and it sounds like Gonzalez has effectively ruled him out for Wednesday's finale against Washington. The team is then off Thursday, and with the DH option available in Texas, the hope is that Gattis will be able to play even if he isn't quite at 100 percent.

Braves' manager Fredi Gonzalez plans to have Gattis in his lineup "as frequently as possible" during the closing month of the season, MLB.com's Mark Bowman reports. Gattis will make his third straight start for the Braves on Sunday, and it sounds as if Gonzalez doesn't plan on letting up. The 28-year-old backstop is slugging .513 on the season with 22 home runs, and the Braves certainly need that bat in the lineup if they intend on competing for one of the final NL playoff spots. It appears Gattis will start all three games of the upcoming series against the Nationals, and followed by a Thursday team day off, the catcher could get some "rest" by serving as the DH in the following series on the road against the Rangers.

Gattis went 3-for-5 with two runs, a home run, and an RBI Saturday against Miami. Initially ruled a triple, Gattis hit a leadoff home run in the top of the 10th inning to give the Braves a one run lead. Gattis swung on the first pitch and drove the ball deep into center field right above the yellow line. It proved to be the game winner as the Braves ended up winning 4-3.
