Gattis (wrist) went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer as the DH in Monday's Grapefruit League loss to the Braves.
The fact that Gattis went deep in the game is a good sign that his wrist injury is healing. He'll take the next step in his recovery Wednesday with a start in in left field against the Phillies.

Gattis (wrist) will start in left field for Wednesday's spring training contest against the Phillies.
Gattis has been sidelined for over a week due to right wrist discomfort, but still appears to be back on track in time for Opening Day. He served as the team's DH on Monday, and his return to the field Wednesday could signal that the wrist is progressing well.

Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow said that he believes Gattis (wrist) will be ready for the start of the season, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
He's expected to DH in Monday's Grapefruit League game, which would give him nearly two full weeks to handle an increased workload in spring games before Opening Day.

Gattis (wrist) underwent an MRI on Thursday which revealed no structural damage in his wrist, Evan Drellich of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Gattis proceeded to take 15-20 swings off a tee and didn't feel any pain. He's been playing defense regularly in left field and first base, but he'll continue to build up his swing as Opening Day approaches. At this point, his Opening Day status does not appear to be in jeopardy, but the Astros could be forced to lean on alternative options in left field and first base if his status does not improve in the week ahead.

Gattis (wrist) might be able to hit off a tee in the next day or two, Jose de Jesus Ortiz of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Astros manager A.J. Hinch said "wrists are sort of day-to-day when it comes to activity level. We're hoping to introduce the tee in the next day or two to see where (Evan's) wrist tolerance is. For now we're going to hold off for the day." Gattis has been taking ground balls at first base and fly balls in left field, but he has not been able to hit since feeling discomfort last Saturday against the Braves.

Gattis (wrist) has not been cleared to swing a bat, Jose de Jesus Ortiz of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Gattis was scratched from Sunday's spring game with right wrist discomfort, but he did some defensive work in left field Monday, which indicates the injury can't be too serious. "He's seen the doctor and we're going to keep evaluating him day to day," Astros manager A.J. Hinch said. "We have the off-day (Wednesday) and then we'll see how he feels on Thursday."

Gattis was scratched from Sunday's spring training game due to right wrist discomfort, Jose de Jesus Ortiz of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Gattis' wrist injury must have surfaced recently, but can cause issues while hitting. While the wrist damage likely isn't severe, it's worth checking in to ensure nothing more comes of the injury.

Gattis has been working out exclusively in left field this spring, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
Gattis may also see reps at first base in the coming weeks, but he's not expected to see time behind the plate since the Astros are set at the catcher position with Jason Castro and Hank Conger. Injuries have plagued Gattis over the past two seasons, so he'll likely benefit from a higher volume of playing time in 2015 without experiencing the rigors of spending most of his time catching. His rotisserie value would drop considerably if he loses catcher eligibility in 2016, however.

Atlanta agreed to trade Gattis to Houston on Wednesday in exchange for prospects Mike Fotynewicz, Rio Ruiz and Andrew Thurman, New York Post writer Joel Sherman reports.
Gattis first needs to pass a physical with Houston in order for the trade to finalize, but the other aspects of the transaction are evidently settled by now. Houston is poised to possess a great deal of right-hitting slugging power between Gattis, Chris Carter and George Springer, while the trade would leave Atlanta without the second of its top-two home run hitters from 2014 with Justin Upton already gone.
