Gattis, who returned to the Astros' starting lineup in left field Tuesday at San Diego, hit a two-run homer in three at-bats.
Gattis' home run in the first inning off Padres' starter Tyson Ross was his second this season. Astros manager A.J. Hinch previously said he wanted to start Gattis in left field at least once during the team's three-game Interleague series at San Diego, so he'll likely be in the lineup again Wednesday.

Gattis isn't in the lineup Monday against the Padres.
With Gattis struggling at the plate (.160 average, one homer over 64 at-bats) and no DH spot available in the lineup in San Diego, the 28-year-old will be left on the bench Monday. Manager A.J. Hinch indicated prior to the start of the series that he hopes to get Gattis at least one start in left field, but that will have to wait until Tuesday or Wednesday.

Astros manager A.J. Hinch said he wants to use Gattis in left field at least once during the upcoming series at San Diego, Evan Drellich of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Gattis, who is considered a poor defender both behind the plate and in left field, returned to the Astros' lineup Sunday and hit a go-ahead two-run double in the ninth inning to lead them to a 7-6 win over the A's. He had two hits in the game and drove in four runs altogether. "I'm glad to finally contribute to a win, to come through with the go-ahead runs. I'm glad to have hit it, first of all." Gattis said of Tyler Clippard's neck-high fastball that he drove over the head of Sam Fuld in center field. The 28-year-old is hitting .156/.194/.250 with a home run, five RBI and a 22:3 K:BB ratio over 64 at-bats this season.

Gattis is out of the lineup Saturday against the A's.
Gattis collected two hits in Friday's win, but he's still sitting with a miserable .136/.177/.220 batting line and 22 strikeouts through 15 games (62 plate appearances). Chris Carter will serve as the DH in Gattis' absence as Marwin Gonzalez steps in at first base, but the Astros figure to give Gattis plenty of time to work through his struggles.

Gattis hit a solo home run, his first of the season and first as a member of the Astros, in Wednesday's 6-1 win over Oakland.
Gattis' eighth inning blast off A's reliever R.J. Alvarez was his only hit of the game in four at-bats. Fantasy owners who drafted the catcher-eligible DH for his power finally caught a glimpse of what he's capable of, as the home run traveled 421 feet over the center field wall. Gattis is currently riding a modest three-game hitting streak after going hitless in his first five games.

Gattis snapped an 0-for-23 start to his season with a single in the ninth inning during Monday's 8-1 loss to the Rangers.
"It feels like getting a little bit of a weight lifted," Gattis said after the game. "It's a step in the right direction a small victory." The Astros' DH admitted he may have been pressing at the plate, but his fantasy owners surely hope that's behind him now and he'll start flashing signs of his power.

To the surprise of literally no one, Gattis is not in the lineup Saturday against the Rangers, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram's Stefan Stevenson reports.
Gattis is the coldest hitter in the big leagues right now, with zero hits in 15 at-bats to start the season. He has nine strikeouts over those four games, including back-to-back golden sombreros Wednesday and Thursday. The Astros need him to get out of this funk, and he should be in the lineup again as soon as Sunday, but there's no denying he could use a day off. Marwin Gonzalez will get the start at shortstop Saturday with Jed Lowrie sliding to DH.

Gattis suffered his second consecutive four-strikeout game during Thursday's 5-1 loss to the Indians.
"Yeah, it's embarrassing," Gattis said after the game. "I've never been booed by my own fans before, so that's a first, too. I'm a better hitter than that." Through three games as the Astros' DH, the 28-year-old remains hitless with eight strikeouts in 11 at-bats.

Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow said Gattis "will catch some (games), probably later in the season," but will mostly DH and play left field, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
Gattis' rotisserie value in 2016 hinges on whether or not he retains catcher eligibility, so it's encouraging to hear there's at least a slight chance of that happening. He's a defensive liability both behind the plate and in the outfield, however, so it's safe to assume he'll DH most often.
