Cardinals manager Tony La Russa said Edwin Jackson could be available out of the bullpen for Game 1 or, more likely, Game 2 of the World Series. Jackson is scheduled to start Game 4. The odds are long that he'll actually come into a game in relief, particularly with long man Jake Westbrook being added to the roster, but La Russa isn't ruling Jackson out after his starters failed to go five innings in five of six NLCS games.

Edwin Jackson was roughed up for four runs over two innings in Game 6 of the NLCS Sunday against the Brewers. Jackson served up three homers and was yanked after 48 pitches. He was spotted a 4-0 lead but exited with that advantage cut to 5-4. St. Louis tacked on four runs in the top of the third to give the bullpen -- which was stellar again, allowing two runs over seven innings -- a comfortable lead to work with. Jackson has had a rough go of it in the early innings this season and Tony La Russa couldn't afford to have patience with the 28-year-old with an opportunity to eliminate Milwaukee available. Despite advancing to the World Series, St. Louis fans have to be concerned with their starting rotation, which recorded just 73 outs in six NLCS games, an average of four innings a game, while posting a 5.60 postseason ERA. Then again, Texas's starters have a 6.34 ERA in the playoffs thus far.

Edwin Jackson allowed seven hits and two runs over 4 and 1/3 innings in the Cardinals Game 2 win at Milwaukee. Jackson helped his cause by leading off the third with a single to center that Nyjer Morgan couldn't make a play on. Milwaukee would get to him in the fourth, however, as Fielder led off with a double and Weeks hit a two-run shot to left to cut the Cardinals lead in half. Though Jackson did not look dominating or go deep into the game it was an all around solid effort. Lance Lynn (1-0) recorded the final two outs in the fifth to pick up the win.

Edwin Jackson rebounded from a rough first inning to allow just two runs on five hits and a walk over six innings in the 5-3 NLDS Game 4 win over the Phillies. Jackson has had a rough go of it in the first inning this season, and this start was no different, as he allowed a double, a triple and a single to the first three hitters while watching two runs cross the plate. He settled in after that, though, allowing just three baserunners over five scoreless innings to pick up the win in his first ever postseason start. If the Cards advance, Jackson should get another start in Game 4 of the NLCS.

Edwin Jackson will start Game 4 of the NLDS. Originally on tap to pitch Game 2 in Philadelphia, E-Jax was bumped for Cardinals de facto ace Chris Carpenter. The 28-year-old impending free agent is now scheduled to take the mound on Wednesday at Busch Stadium.

Edwin Jackson will pitch Game 2 of the NLDS. Jackson is a flyball pitcher, which doesn't bode well for his scheduled Sunday outing in the bandbox that is Citizens Bank Park. But the Cardinals wanted to protect young left-hander Jaime Garica, who has experienced well-chronicled struggles on the road. Garcia is likely to take the mound at Busch Stadium if the series requires a Game 4.

Edwin Jackson pitched seven strong innings in a no-decision Sunday, limiting the Cubs to two runs on five hits and three walks in a 3-2 win. He struck out just two on the day, but it was yet another solid performance from Jackson, who has allowed two or fewer earned runs in nine of his 12 starts with the Cardinals. Jackson winds up with a 3.81 ERA and 1.43 WHIP over 198 2/3 innings with the White Sox and Cards this year. Despite a rather pedestrian career overall to this point, the 28-year-old should be able to cash in with a multi-year deal this offseason as he enters free agency.

Edwin Jackson yielded five runs over five innings in Tuesday's no-decision against the Mets. He gave up nine hits, walked four and struck out four in the stinker. Luckily, his offense came through in an 11-6 victory. Jackson has a 3.73 ERA in 11 starts since arriving from the White Sox (via Toronto).

Edwin Jackson improved to 5-2 as a Cardinal by holding the Pirates to two runs in 6 2/3 innings on Wednesday. Jackson gave up five doubles and three singles, but he minimized the damage by not walking anyone and starting a double play. He has a 3.32 ERA in 10 starts since arriving from the White Sox (via Toronto).

Edwin Jackson allowed two runs on seven hits and two walks in six innings on Friday, taking a no-decision in St. Louis' 4-3, 10-inning win over the Braves at home. He struck out five in his fifth consecutive quality start. Now the owner of a 3.39 ERA and 1.42 WHIP through his first 58 1/3 innings in a Cardinals uniform, Jackson will get the Pirates in Pittsburgh his next time out.
