According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, the Yankees are only interested in a one-year deal for Edwin Jackson or Hiroki Kuroda. Yankees general partner Hal Steinbrenner met with Jackson's agent, Scott Boras, at the owners' meetings this week, but has yet to approve expanding payroll to add a significant player. The 28-year-old right-hander is reportedly seeking a five-year deal worth about $15 million per season, so Boras will likely continue to shop around for now. Kuroda, who is also drawing interest from the Red Sox, is reportedly looking for a deal worth $12-13 million per season. Sherman suspects that the Bombers will wait out the market, perhaps signing Jackson, Kuroda or even Bartolo Colon to a one-year pact.

According to CBS Sports' Jon Heyman, Yankees general partner Hal Steinbrenner met recently with agent Scott Boras to discuss right-hander Edwin Jackson. Jackson is said to be seeking a five-year deal worth around $15 million annually, which is why interest has been so low. If he makes that asking price a little more attractive, things could pick up quickly. E-Jax posted a 3.79 ERA and 148/62 K/BB ratio in 199 2/3 innings last season between the White Sox and Cardinals. The Orioles have also expressed interest this winter.

Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reports that the Orioles have interest in free agent right-hander Edwin Jackson. Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun reported last month that the O's were "intrigued" by Jackson's upside but that the righty would probably be out of their price range. It sounds like Jackson's exorbitant demands will likely have to come down, though, and perhaps the O's will get in the mix if they're lowered far enough. The Yankees are also showing interest in the Scott Boras client.

According to Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com, free agent right-hander Edwin Jackson is seeking $15-17 million per season. Jackson's agent, Scott Boras, has compared his client to C.J. Wilson, Mark Buehrle, John Lackey, A.J. Burnett and Derek Lowe, all of whom received north of $14 million per season as free agents. It's worth noting that Wilson and Buehrle just signed and the final three names on the list turned out to be big mistakes, so we're not sure this is the best strategy. Heyman hears that the Yankees will continue dialogue with Jackson, but the two sides are in no way close to a deal.

Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports that the Yankees "have been talking about" Edwin Jackson. But they don't like his current asking price, which is thought to be five years, $60 million. Jackson's agent, Scott Boras, is likely to be as patient as possible with the right-hander, hoping to lure a panic move out of a team desperate for quality rotation depth. Jackson had a 3.79 ERA and 148/62 K/BB ratio in 199 2/3 innings last season between the White Sox and Cardinals.

Wallace Matthews of ESPN New York reports that free agent Edwin Jackson is seeking a five-year contract. On top of that, "E-Jax" wants around $12 million annually. It's a sky-high asking price, but he's one of the few remaining reliable starters on the open market and might be able to land something close by waiting until teams get even more desperate. The 28-year-old right hander had a 3.79 ERA and 148/62 K/BB ratio in 199 2/3 innings this past season between the White Sox and Cardinals.

Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun reports that the Orioles are "intrigued" by Edwin Jackson's upside. Connolly says the O's plan to acquire at least one more starter via free agency or trade, and Jackson is on their list. He intimates that Joe Saunders is a more likely possibility than Jackson, though, because he probably could be had with a less expensive two-year deal, while Jackson might get four years. The Orioles are also in on Taiwanese lefty Chen Wei-yin.

Cardinals received cash considerations from the Blue Jays to complete July's blockbuster trade involving Colby Rasmus and Edwin Jackson. In late July, the Blue Jays received Colby Rasmus, Brian Tallet, Trever Miller and P.J. Walters for Edwin Jackson, Marc Rzepczynski, Octavio Dotel, Corey Patterson and three players to be named or cash. The PTBNL were not going to be anything more than marginal prospects, but we're surprised to see cash sent in lieu of players to complete this transaction.

Edwin Jackson was offered arbitration by the Cardinals. Jackson is fully expected to sign with a different organization this offseason and, as a Type B free agent, will fetch the Cardinals one draft pick when he does. The right-hander posted a 3.79 ERA and 148/62 K/BB ratio in 199 2/3 innings this past year.

Edwin Jackson labored mightily in Game 4 of the World Series Sunday, allowing three runs on three hits and seven walks over 5 1/3 innings. He struck out three. Jackson was able to evade danger despite his wildness for most of the evening, but Tony La Russa ended up having just a bit too much confidence in the right-hander. The 28-year-old entered the sixth inning with a 1-0 lead and walked two batters while recording an out. The Cardinals stalled while attempting to quickly get Mitchell Boggs warmed in the bullpen. On his first pitch, Boggs served up a three-run homer to Mike Napoli. Jackson once again struggled in the first inning, allowing a run and escaping with the bases loaded. He came into the game with a 6.62 ERA in the first inning this season, including the playoffs, and a 3.41 ERA from the second inning on. The last time Jackson served up seven free passes, of course, he threw a no-hitter. Jackson allowed the most walks in a World Series game since Livan Hernandez walked eight in Game 5 of '97 series and won. Jackson walked just two over his first three playoff starts and had a season-high of five free passes.
