Of course, two of those games came in Colorado, but nonetheless, Gregorius is on pace for his finest season at the plate. Curiously, however, his defense has dropped off, as he's made eight errors while showing reduced range this season.

The 26-year-old posted his fourth multi-hit outing of June, and blasted his third two-bagger of the month in the process. Gregorius' average has been on a steady climb since May 1, as it's seen a 48-point jump over that span. He's now slashing .269/.296/.376 on the season, while providing some occasional power (four homers).

Gregorius is out of the lineup Thursday, the Bergen Record's Pete Caldera reports.

To this point, Gregorius has been a bottom-10 starting shortstop offensively, and his negative 0.2 WAR on Fangraphs is actually second to last among qualified shortstops. Starlin Castro will get his first start of the season at shortstop, and Castro could start seeing more occasional time there as the Yankees look for a spark.

Gregorius went 3-for-4 with a home run Wednesday against the Blue Jays.

Between his lack of power and a 16:2 K:BB on the year, it's hard to find the upside for Gregorius.
