Yankees manager Joe Girardi indicated Wednesday that it was unlikely Derek Jeter (quad) would be activated from the disabled list on Saturday, the first day he's eligible.
Jeter has taken batting practice and run sprints the last two days but has yet to test things out on the bases. He could do that Friday. "Nothing's out of the question, but I'm not so sure we'll see him Saturday," Girardi said. "You've got to be able to run at 100 percent and know there's no soreness, no pain, and that everything works proper."

Derek Jeter (quad) took batting practice Tuesday.
Jeter is slowly incorporating more baseball activities, as he fielded ground balls hit directly at him on Monday. He remains hopeful of being activated from the disabled list on Saturday, the first day he's eligible.

It's something, but it's not exactly a big step. Jeter said he no longer feels discomfort in his right quad and is hoping to return from the disabled list on Saturday, the first day he's eligible. He'll ramp up his activities in a hurry to meet that goal, though. "I'm going day to day," Jeter said. "Like I've said, I want to play as soon as possible. I want to play on Saturday."

Yankees GM Brian Cashman said Friday he was unsure if Derek Jeter (quad) will be able to return from the disabled list when first eligible.
Jeter was placed on the disabled list Friday with a Grade 1 strain of his right quad and is without a timetable for return. While the Yankees haven't ruled out that he could be activated when first eligible, it would be a surprise if Jeter was ready by July 27.

Yankees placed SS/DH Derek Jeter (quad) on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 12, with a strained right quad.
Chris Cotillo of MLBDailyDish.com had the news first, and the Yankees have now made the move official. Jeter suffered a Grade 1 strain of his right quad in his season debut last Thursday and apparently hasn't made as much progress over the last week as the club had hoped for. With a retroactive DL move, Jeter is eligible to return on July 27, though it's not clear if he'll be ready at that time.

Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said Wednesday that no decision has been made on the status of Derek Jeter (quad) yet.
Jeter suffered a Grade 1 strain of his right quad in his season debut last Thursday. The Yankees have been waiting things out in hopes that he makes progress during the All-Star break, so don't expect an official announcement on his status until Friday.

Derek Jeter wasn't at Yankee Stadium during New York's loss to the Twins on Saturday.
Jeter stayed home due to a stomach bug, not the strained quad that has him ruled out through the All-Star break. The Yankees are hoping that he'll be able to avoid the disabled list. In the meantime, Joe Girardi will play with a short bench.

Derek Jeter (quad) has been ruled out through the All-Star break after being diagnosed with a Grade 1 right quad strain.
Jeter was injured in his first game back on Thursday. The Yankees are hoping that he'll be able to avoid the disabled list, but they're ruling out a possible DL stint. Eduardo Nunez is handling shortstop Friday, while Vernon Wells is in the DH spot.

Derek Jeter (quad) is not in the Yankees' lineup Friday.
Jeter had to leave his first game back Thursday after straining his quad. Yankees general manager Brian Cashman will have an announcement soon regarding Jeter's condition, which usually isn't a good sign. The shortstop is currently still listed among the team's reserves, though.

Derek Jeter went 1-for-4 with a single, an RBI and a run scored in his season debut Thursday against the Royals, but made an early exit with a strained quad.
Jeter, who served as the DH, hit the ball on the ground in all four of his at-bats and none of them left the infield. The RBI came on a ground out in the sixth inning. His quad tightened up on him at some point during the afternoon, so Brett Gardner was sent up as a pinch-hitter in the bottom of the eighth inning. He'll undergo an MRI, but Yankees manager Joe Girardi said Jeter thinks he will play Friday night. Stay tuned.
