Yankees GM Brian Cashman said that he is entering the offseason with Derek Jeter (ankle) locked in as the starting shortstop, and does not believe finding a replacement will be on his winter task list. "I haven't looked at it at this stage," Cashman said. "We do have Eduardo Nunez, we have Jayson Nix [as backups]. So it's not something we've focused on, and I wouldn't think that that's something I would gravitate to." Jeter underwent ankle surgery Saturday and is expected to need four to five months of recovery time. The Yankees are hoping he'll be cleared to return by Opening Day.

Derek Jeter will undergo surgery on his left ankle this Saturday in North Carolina. Jeter fractured the ankle in Game 1 of the ALCS against the Tigers. He's expected to make a full recovery by Opening Day 2013 but may take it easy for the first half of spring training. The veteran shortstop hit .316/.362/.429 with 15 homers and 58 RBI in 159 games this season.

A league source told ESPN New York that Derek Jeter will "likely" undergo surgery on his broken left ankle. Jeter has potential ligament damage associated with his ankle injury and will visit with a specialist in Charlotte before determining the next step. Regardless on if he requires surgery, the Yankees are maintaining that they expect him to be medically cleared in time for spring training in February.

Derek Jeter is having more tests Sunday to determine if surgery on his fractured left ankle is necessary. It's not clear at this point how long the rehab would be if he does need to have surgery, but it's not going to affect his availability for next season. Jeter has obviously been ruled out for the remainder of the postseason, and the Yankees will use Jayson Nix as their starting shortstop.

Derek Jeter has been diagnosed with a fractured ankle and will miss the remainder of the postseason. It's a staggering blow for the Yankees' captain, who suffered the fracture in the 12th inning of Saturday's ALCS Game 1 loss to the Tigers. It's estimated that he'll need three months of recovery time. The Yankees will likely add Eduardo Nunez to the roster to provide infield depth. They'll roll with either Nunez, Jayson Nix or Alex Rodriguez at shortstop for the remainder of the playoffs.

Derek Jeter left Saturday's Game 1 of the ALCS in the top of the 12th inning after apparently re-injuring his left ankle while fielding a ground ball. Jeter was in noticeable pain after falling to the ground, and had to be carried off the field without putting pressure on the ankle. Jayson Nix replaced Jeter at short, and would get the call there on Sunday if Jeter is unable to go.

Derek Jeter (foot) is in the lineup as the designated hitter for Game 4 of the ALDS against the Orioles on Thursday. Jeter left Wednesday's game after fouling a ball off his left foot, but it isn't enough to keep him out of the lineup. However, Jayson Nix will handle shortstop. Nix is 3-for-10 with three homers lifetime against Thursday's starter Joe Saunders.

Derek Jeter said he'll be back in the lineup for Game 4 of the ALDS Thursday despite a bone bruise on the top of his left foot. As it turns out, Jeter didn't aggravate his prior ankle injury but rather was hurt when he fouled a ball off his foot. He underwent an X-ray, which came back negative. It's clear that Jeter is in a lot of pain, but it would be shocking if he wasn't back in there Thursday.

Derek Jeter left Wednesday's ALDS Game 3 against the Orioles after aggravating his left ankle injury. Jeter was limping noticeably throughout the game, and the Yankees finally decided to pull him after his at-bat in the eighth inning. The Captain first injured the ankle back in mid-September and had to play multiple games in the DH slot in order to get some extra rest. Jayson Nix took his spot at shortstop.
