Mets manager Terry Collins said he might bat the pitcher eighth this season to increase RBI opportunities for David Wright and Curtis Granderson. "I think both [Wright and Curtis Granderson] are RBI guys," Collins said. "My thought is: How do we get them more RBI chances and also give David, in particular, chances to drive in runs. It is a possibility I might try [hitting the pitcher eighth.] I don't know that I will, but I might." The tactic was used most famously by Tony La Russa with some of his Cardinals teams as a way to create more run-scoring opportunities ahead of Albert Pujols. Such a move would be a boon to Wright and Granderson's RBI totals, but probably not enough to move either player up draft boards at this point.
