New York Mets third baseman David Wright could start a rehab assignment as early as Monday as he continues to recover from a back injury, according to ESPN New York. Wright, who began what will be a five-day stretch of rigorous baseball workouts Tuesday, will rest Sunday before embarking on a rehab assignment if he does not suffer any setbacks. The 32-year-old has not played since April 14 because of spinal stenosis, but he is nearing a return after receiving clearance to increase his activity level. “I’m planning on coming back and being an everyday player," Wright said. “It’s nice to be back in the grind again, rather than being secluded to the therapy room. It’s been a long process and I like the fact we’re finally talking about baseball and no rehab and doctors. You put in all this work to finally get to the point where you are now." Wright will need a handful of rehab starts before he returns, but he is on track to return sometime this month.

New York Mets third baseman David Wright will work out five consecutive days as he continues to recover from a back injury, according to the Newark Star-Ledger. Wright, who has been on the disabled list for all but eight games this season as a result of spinal stenosis, will begin his workouts Tuesday. It was reported by ESPN New York that Wright could begin a rehab assignment sometime this week, but Wright has not commented, saying he is simply working to get back on the field as soon as possible. "It's in incremental steps every day where not only are you doing the baseball things a number of days in a row, but you're also upping the reps each day, so there is a little more on my plate every day," Wright told New York Newsday. "It's just a matter of making sure my body can respond to those baseball things on a daily basis."

New York Mets third baseman David Wright is expected to begin baseball activities next week while recovering from a back injury, according to ESPN New York. Wright was hopeful that he would be able to resume baseball activities after being examined by a doctor earlier this month, but he remains limited while working out in Los Angeles. Manager Terry Collins said Wright has tried to remain involved with the team while sidelined, visiting them twice during a recent road trip to the west coast. “He has the makeup and the clout to get on guys, tease guys and lighten it up a little bit — lighten up the whole situation,” Collins told the New York Times. “When he walks in the room, people turn their heads because he’s David Wright. When you’re a star, that’s what happens. We kind of miss that.” Wright does not have a timetable for return.

According to GM Sandy Alderson, Wright (back), who was to see Dr. Robert Watkins on Monday in Los Angeles to hopefully get clearance to resume baseball activities, has had no change in his status, the NY Post reports.
That sound you hear is the clock ticking on Wright's availability for the remainder of the season. Once Wright gets clearance, he will need at least three weeks to be ready to rejoin the Mets, presuming no setbacks. Three weeks from now would be the beginning of August, but as Wright has not received clearance, we are looking at some time after that. If Wright does not clearance for a few more weeks, that would clearly out his return in 2015 in severe doubt.

Wright's back has made some progress and he hopes to be cleared to begin baseball activity when he sees Dr. Robert Watkins on Monday in Los Angeles, ESPN New York reports.
This is the first real positive sign when it comes to Wright's back in several weeks. If he is cleared for baseball activity, it may take Wright a month or so before he is ready to rejoin the team.

The Mets are hoping Wright (back) will be able to begin limited baseball activities next week, the New York Post reports.
Wright will be examined in Los Angeles this weekend before the team determines a course of action, but according to the report, there's a "strong possibility" he will be cleared to begin running and fielding groundballs next week. If Wright's able to ramp up his activity without significant discomfort, it seems possible he could make it back before the end of July, though nothing's certain. The 32-year-old has been limited to just eight games so far this season due to spinal stenosis.

GM Sandy Alderson said on Friday that Wright (back) is progressing but he as yet to resume baseball activities.
The Mets believed that the All-Star break was feasible for Wright to return, but that looks to be a pipe dream. Until he begins baseball activity and then is able to start a rehab assignment, we will have no true idea as to when he could rejoin the Mets.

There is still not a clear picture on Wright's (back) return date, Kristie Ackert of the NY Daily News reports.
GM Sandy Alderson said last Monday that he believed the All-Star break was a reasonable target date for Wright to return to the lineup. With another week having passed and no real baseball activity having taken place, that return date is looking doubtful.

Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said Monday that he believes the All-Star break is a reasonable target date for Wright (back) to return, NJ.com reports.
Wright would likely need to start a rehab assignment by early July for that to happen, and he's expected to stay in Los Angeles for at least the next week to get treatment. In the meantime, Daniel Murphy (quad) is slated to return this weekend and serve as the regular third baseman, with Dilson Herrera getting most of the playing time at second base.
