New York Mets third baseman David Wright is expected to begin baseball activities next week while recovering from a back injury, according to ESPN New York. Wright was hopeful that he would be able to resume baseball activities after being examined by a doctor earlier this month, but he remains limited while working out in Los Angeles. Manager Terry Collins said Wright has tried to remain involved with the team while sidelined, visiting them twice during a recent road trip to the west coast. “He has the makeup and the clout to get on guys, tease guys and lighten it up a little bit — lighten up the whole situation,” Collins told the New York Times. “When he walks in the room, people turn their heads because he’s David Wright. When you’re a star, that’s what happens. We kind of miss that.” Wright does not have a timetable for return.
