John Tomase of the Boston Herald reports that impending free agent David Ortiz is looking for a two-year deal between $25 million and $30 million. Ortiz would love to remain in Boston, and there have been indications that the Red Sox could be willing to give him the two-year deal this winter that they were unwilling to last offseason. The Red Sox are expected to reach out to Big Papi's representatives this week. Ortiz is currently recovering from ultrasound treatment on his right Achilles tendon.

David Ortiz underwent ultrasound treatment for his right Achilles tendon Monday. Ortiz will be in a walking boot for the next 7-10 days and won't be able to run for 4-6 weeks, but should have plenty of time to get ready for spring training. "I did it just to make sure," said Ortiz. "I talked to so many people that had it done, so I wanted to be sure. They said they were sore after doing it, but I wasn't sore at all." Ortiz, who turns 37 in November, is due to hit free agency five days after the World Series.

Joe McDonald of ESPNBoston.com was told by a team source that the Red Sox will begin serious conversations with impending free agent David Ortiz at "some point next week." Ortiz made $14.575 million this season and is due to hit free agency five days after the World Series. The 36-year-old has made no secret about his desire for a multi-year deal and may have a pretty good case after batting .318/.415/.611 with 23 home runs, 60 RBI and a 1.026 OPS in 90 games this season.

Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington said the team has already engaged in talks with impending free agent David Ortiz. "We've got a couple free agents we're talking to now," Cherington said. "David is a priority, and we've talked to Cody Ross also. I'm not going to comment anymore other than that, just to say we're talking to those guys. David is someone that we feel strongly about bringing back, and we're trying to figure out a way to do that." Ortiz wasn't happy about being offered arbitration last offseason rather than getting the two-year deal he desired, but he said that he's "planning on finishing my career here."

David Ortiz is expected to undergo shockwave therapy on his right Achilles over the offseason. Ortiz has already received a platelet-rich plasma injection, but he's hoping the shockwave treatment will allow him to be fully healed by spring training. "I've recovered so well," Ortiz said. "But the doctors said, 'Hey, for you not to have to worry about that anymore, you should do it.' And I probably will, just to make sure that I'm not going to have to deal with that anymore. That way, I'll be absolutely 120 percent by spring training. No question.'' Big Papi will be a free agent this winter.

David Ortiz told Scott Lauber of the Boston Herald that he wants a multi-year contract from the Red Sox. "Yeah, of course, it's something I don't want to be worried about anymore," said Ortiz, who is poised to hit free agency this winter. "If I can play, I can play. You can't take that away from me. I think it's easier for me not to be answering the questions you're asking me right now the whole year." Ortiz wanted a multi-year deal last offseason, but ended up settling for a one-year, $14.575 million deal after accepting arbitration. The 36-year-old was having one of his most productive seasons prior to an Achilles injury, batting .318/.415/.611 with 23 home runs, 60 RBI and a 1.026 OPS in 90 games, so the Red Sox may have to pony up this time.

David Ortiz will have the boot on his right Achilles removed Tuesday but conceded that it's unlikely he'll return this season. It backs up what Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine said previously. "I pushed it once," Ortiz said. "It didn't work." With the Sox out of the playoff hunt, it makes sense for Big Papi to shut things down. He'll be a free agent this winter.

Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine said David Ortiz's (Achilles) season is likely over. "I would assume," Valentine replied when asked if Ortiz would be shut down. Big Papi is making some progress, but he's yet to resume running and the Red Sox have no incentive to push him at this point. If his year is indeed finished, Ortiz will end it with a terrific .318/.415/.611 batting line to go along with 23 homers and 60 RBI over 90 games.

Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine said Friday that he is bracing for the likelihood that David Ortiz (Achilles) will miss the rest of the season. Ortiz is making progress after receiving a platelet-rich plasma injection on August 27, but he hasn't been cleared to begin running. With the Red Sox out of the race, there's little reason for him to rush back and risk further injury going into free agency. "I'm not sure that that's the official word yet," said Valentint. "Just prepare just in case he's not going to come back. It's not really my call. I mean, if he's healthy and he loves to play the game of baseball, he could always go out there and bat it around a little. I'd hate to jeopardize his career, that's for sure."

Red Sox placed DH David Ortiz on the 15-day disabled list with a right Achilles tendon injury. Ortiz has been dealing with the heel issue for much of the second half and could be shut down for the rest of the season if a week of treatment doesn't free him of his discomfort. The veteran slugger was batting .318/.415/.611 with 23 home runs and 60 RBI through 90 games played.
