David Ortiz is currently dealing with soreness in both of his legs. It isn't related to his right Achilles, as the soreness is below his calves and in the tendons in the back of his ankles. It's believed to be a side effect of him ramping up his running in recent days, so the Red Sox could scale things back for the next day or two.

David Ortiz (Achilles) will take batting practice Thursday before deciding whether to run the bases. Ortiz is still feeling some soreness in his right Achilles tendon, so he isn't going to push it. The veteran slugger has yet to make his Grapefruit League debut, but the Red Sox are still optimistic that he'll be ready for Opening Day.

David Ortiz (Achilles) ran the bases again Tuesday. Ortiz did it with "less duration and intensity" than his Monday workout, according to the Boston Globe's Pete Abraham, but it still represents another step in the right direction. The veteran designated hitter is aiming to begin appearing in Grapefruit League games by the weekend. He should be fine for Opening Day.

David Ortiz (Achilles) ran the bases on Monday. "I was moving pretty good," Ortiz told reporters after the workout. "I don't think I can run faster than that. Let's just see how things go later on tonight." The veteran designated hitter is hoping to begin playing in spring games by the end of this week. If that happens, he'll have no problem getting ready for Opening Day.

David Ortiz (Achilles) did not run the bases as scheduled Sunday. This isn't a setback, but Ortiz acknowledged there's no guarantee he'll be ready for the start of the season and the Red Sox have pushed him back to the point where there's no longer a timetable for his return. Ortiz hopes to be cleared to make his spring training debut sometime next week.

David Oritz (Achilles) won't be cleared to run the bases until at least next week. Ortiz increased the intensity of his workouts in recent days without suffering any setbacks, but still hasn't progressed enough to make his Grapefruit League debut. However, he was never expected to see much playing time in the early part of spring training. The Red Sox remain confident that he'll be fully healthy and in the lineup for Opening Day.
