David Ortiz (Achilles) did not run the bases as scheduled on Friday. Ortiz received a pain-killing injection earlier this week, and has yet to receive medical clearance. Asked specifically if he would be return from the disabled list Sunday, manager Bobby Valentine said, "I don't think so." We'll know more on Ortiz's status when the Red Sox re-evaluate him later on Saturday. Ryan Lavarnway will continue to DH in his absence.

David Ortiz (Achilles) is unlikely to be activated from the disabled list Sunday. Ortiz did agility drills and took batting practice indoors on Thursday, but admitted to feeling "pretty sore" on Friday. He's going to work out again Saturday, but it looks like the Red Sox are going to have to get by without him for a little longer. The veteran slugger hasn't played since July 16 due to right Achilles strain.

David Ortiz (Achilles) is aiming to return from the disabled list Sunday against the Indians. Ortiz got a pain-killing injection in his ailing right heel on Monday and reported feeling much improved on Tuesday during a chat with reporters. He doesn't plan on taking any at-bats in minor league games. The 36-year-old DH was hitting .316/.414/.609 before landing on the shelf.

David Ortiz received an injection Monday to reduce the inflammation in his ailing right heel. Ortiz tried to ramp up baseball activities late last week, but the pain in his Achilles lingered. However, the veteran progress could make quick progress if the injection does its job.

David Ortiz (Achilles) confirmed Friday that he will not be activated from the disabled list this weekend. That was the assumption after Ortiz estimated that he was at about 50 to 60 percent on Thursday, but it's now official. The veteran slugger continues to take batting practice and is making progress in tests with the training staff, but he isn't completely pain-free yet, which is preventing him from running. Early next week appears to be a realistic goal.

David Ortiz (Achilles) has not ruled out returning from the disabled list this weekend. Ortiz said Thursday after doing some running and agility drills that he's probably at about "50 to 60 percent," but he said he doesn't have to be 100 percent to return. The last step for him will be running at full speed, which he said Thursday he thinks will happen in 3-4 days. "If I can handle it for a couple of days, probably they might give me the green light. But we have to get there first," Ortiz said.

David Ortiz (Achilles) said Thursday that he's probably at about "50 to 60 percent." Ortiz did some running and agility drills on the field Thursday, but he thinks it may be another three or four days before he does "power running" drills. This would seem to rule out the possibility of a return this weekend.

David Ortiz said he no longer feels pain in his right Achilles. "I feel better today than days before," Ortiz said Wednesday. "Hopefully, I will continue feeling better every day. We'll see if I can go back into the fire." It's an encouraging development, but Big Papi has yet to test out his Achilles on the basepaths, which will be the biggest test. "I haven't done anything outside yet. I'll do things outside probably in the next two or three days," he said. "The doctor checked me out every day, and he found less tendinitis on my Achilles [today], so that's good." There's no timetable for Ortiz's return, but he's headed in the right direction.

David Ortiz is still feeling soreness in his right Achilles tendon and won't be activated on Wednesday. There was some hope that Ortiz would be ready when first eligible, but he's still very much in recovery mode. "I can't say right now exactly when I'll be ready to play," said the veteran designated hitter. "Let's see how the process goes." He may on the shelf until mid-August.

Red Sox manager Bobby Valentin wouldn't rule out the possibility of David Ortiz (Achilles) returning from the disabled list when first eligible. Ortiz shed his protective boot earlier this week and was cleared for live batting practice Friday. Its clear he's making progress, but we'll know more about his return to the Red Sox once he begins running exercises. Cody Ross, Pedro Ciriaco, and Daniel Nava will continue to see regular playing time at DH in the short-term.
